Q: What is the most effective way to reinstall OS Mavericks from scratch?

...if I want to reinstall from the bootable DVD I made (from Mavericks Installer that I downloaded some time month ago). I'm tired of numerous problems plugging my system recently. Slowdowns, especially concerning iWork and iLife, so I decided to return to Day 1. Will I be able then update to 10.9.5? I don't even mind losing some of my data as performance is more important for me. I know there're several ways to accomplish the task, what would be your suggestions?

Any support would earn my gratitude,

Kindest regards,

I.S.

Hi, Drew Reece. Could you elaborate more on this? I'm not sure I got you :-) It now says

Pass 1 of 7. Estimated time 4 days 13 hours. does it mean I have to wait for god knows how many days if just 1 pass is 4 days? There is a button Skip. Is it for purpose for skipping these passes?

    Kindest regards,

I think the time is for all passes, otherwise it is 31.5 days

It can take eons to secure erase TB disks.  How large is it? Is it a SSD?

I can't remember if skip stops the current pass, it may drop into the reformat task.

Do you really need secure erase?

A normal format should be quick, a zero would be several hours.

    This should help
