I have just installed this update on my MacBook Pro - 2010 and from the restart the fans are running at the highest setting. Nothing I do will fix the problem - the noise is hugely distracting! My MBP has the high def monitor - which I guess preceded retina display. I notice there's a fix for the newer MBP retina display units to solve a fan issue. Could this be in any way related to my machine problem? Installed Yosemite 10.10.2

Just updated to 10.10.2 0n Mac book pro noisy fan

{Did you really install the Admin version of Apple Remote Desktop, not the client update?

    The client is just an update to an existing part of the user side of remote desktop, not admin.}

•Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support

To reset the SMC and check the activity monitor utility to see what is using up resources

can help in most instances. Unless there is some undetermined issue in hardware, etc.

As you sent your solution (thank you) I was in the process of a SMC reset - which has solved the problem - hopefully - the fans now running at normal speed.

Curiously - I had earlier had an issue with the install and reset incorrectly by including the CMD button in the SMC reset process. I wonder if this initiated the fan problem?

With reference to the Admin install - I'm no expert and merely copied what the install record showed me in App Sore Updates.

Thanks for your help and time.

Sometimes the use of Disk Utility's 'repair disk permissions' can help the system

after a software update or install, the first aid section of that utility is used on the

Macintosh HD or main section of the hard drive partition the user/system is on.

You could run Disk Utility from the Utilities folder, from the Apple menu bar under

the Go header (look for that name, Utilities, as that is the folder.)

Other things to try may include a 'safeboot' or restart with shift key held down,

until you are asked for your admin password, then you may see the words

safe boot in the screen; this does a file check and minor repair. Then do the

'repair disk permissions' and restart the computer normally..

Other times, a person could just log out of the user account without restarting &

then log back in. There are different situation where these help. Or can't hurt!

Not sure if you would have been accidentally able to do something that may have

started the fans spinning, from just the use of the other key combination. There are

pages of keyboard shortcuts that do a variety of things. Most of them may work to

perform a function on a conditional basis. I haven't double checked the keyboard

combinations pages or tables to see if that may have been a valid one, or for what.

When I updated some software recently (in Mav 10.9.5) there was a remote desktop

update for the client, among listed items. Since the main client version is part of every

Mac OS X system I figured it wouldn't affect me, so I installed it along with the rest.

A friend whose MINI shipped with Yosemite said they had the ARD client update, too.

    Hopefully this helps...
