Q: Macbook - Even Safe Mode Not Working

My Macbook has been having a lot of problems recently and I recognize it may be time to put it out of its misery, but I gave it one last try rebooting in safe mode, and all I get is a beautiful picture of Yosemite but no dock, no menu , no nothing!  Any suggestions, please!

Hi Peter Roussak See if I can help. Safe mode does not load all you extensions, but you should still have a menu bar at the top of the screen. Have you tried resetting your pram? Command/Option/P/R while holding down the power button for three chime while starting up. Or use single user mode.http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203176  In Yosemite you can also restart into restore mode by starting up using Option or Option R or even Command R. This give you access to using restore or disk utilities. Using restore will not erase files but restores your operating system. It is still a good idea to back thing up though.

Thanks, I'd already tried the PRAM and SMC resets but in the end reinstalling Yosemite seems to have helped, at least for now.  But single-user mode might be an option next time it misbehaves (as I'm sure it will!), thanks for that link.
