Q: My Mac is sooo slow.. just spinning.... where is support?  I have apple care?  No support available?

My IMAC is so slow.  It is just spinning.  I am waiting forever to go from one program to the other.  This is just getting so bad, I just have not been able to take this thing to the MAC store for service, is there anybody out there that can help me speed this thing up.  I have to get it to service, but not for another week or two.. is there anybody out there... I have 100% apple care until 2015.. It says I have no support options.. help.

What do you mean? What is telling you there are no support options? You can always call 1-800-APL-CARE.

Or, we can help you. Please run EtreCheck: http://etresoft.com/etrecheck, and post the output.

Thank you for your quick response.  I did try to get to support through my IMAC, I requested that they call me, they said that was not available.. I then called the apple support line and asked for Technical Support through Apple Care and the machine told me to call back between business hours.. something is not right.. I'm downloading the program you gave me and will report.  Thank you very much.

From the looks of it, the slowness is caused simply by a hardware limitation: not enough RAM. Notice in your report, in the virtual memory section, there are multiple gigabytes of page-outs.

    From Apple's support article here:

    • Page ins / Page outs: This refers to the amount of information moved between RAM and the Mac's drive. This number is a cumulative amount of data that OS X has moved between RAM and the Mac's drive. [...] Page outs occur when the Mac has to write information from RAM to the hard drive, because RAM is full. Adding more RAM may reduce page outs.

I don't see from your report any obvious software that is hogging a lot of RAM, so just adding more is probably the best solution. You might check out http://crucial.com or http://eshop.macsales.com.

Thank you very much.  This seems obvious to me as well.  I am however baffled by what is causing the memory drain.  I am not running multiple processes.. I am just trying to run 1 or 2 at a time.. and this is happening ALL THE TIME.   Any other suggestions?

I paid boo cool bucks for this apple care package and nada in the support department tonight..  Thanks for all of your help here in the forum, I just don't know what is going on.

Which one or two programs are you typically running? Be aware that OS X Yosemite itself needs at least 2GB, leaving only 2GB for processes you want to run.

Well that is the culprit.. if it is using 1/2 of my memory just to run.. anything I turn on.. Downloading mail, running Safari.. that is what I do.. all day long.. If I want to send an email and attach a few photographs, or a chart, or anything like this.. I'm waiting days.. the thing is just not able to surf the net anymore.  Forget trying to run Chrome, I just use Safari and it's dragging.  I'm so disappointed, and yes, it seems to have become much worse since upgrading the past few times.  So unfortunate.

Final Questions:  I have two slots available.. how much ram can I put in there to fend this off for a while.  I really need to max this out.  Also, is this something that I can bring this in for and have it done in 1 afternoon, or is this going to hijack my Mac for a week?  Please advise.  Thanks again.

Installing RAM is something that you can do yourself. The two vendors that I linked to earlier will ship it to you. They have installation videos on their websites. If you wanted to max out the RAM for your iMac model, you should get 4 x 8GB modules (Apple says the max is 16GB total, but others have tested it and verified it works with 32GB).

YOu would probably be fine if you added 2 x 4 GB in the two empty slots - one of the most recommended vendors is OWC, macsales.com. They have install videos on their site - it is really easy to do.
