Q: Unable to Setup Voicemail on iPhone 6 Plus

I just received my new iPhone 6 Plus from ATT and walked through all the prompts to transfer content, activate ATT service, etc.  I called my iPhone from a landline to see if Voicemail was active and it just kept on ringing.  So, I went into my iPhone 6 Plus and tapped on the voicemail icon.  The telephone rang and an electronic voice asked me to enter the voicemail box I want to access.  I entered my mobile number and it said that it does not exist.  I tried this twice.  I restarted the iPhone and tried it again but got the same result.

I cannot find any articles on how to activate voicemail.  Is this an iOS8 issue or do I just call ATT to see if it's an issue on their end.  I previously used visual voicemail on my 4S on ATT, so I thought it would be a seamless process since I stayed with the same carrier, same voice & data plan, etc.  Any thoughts of what I should do next?

You need to contact AT&T. They need to reset your voicemail on their end.

Thanks much to Chris and Matt. I phoned ATT wireless customer care and they had to change settings on their end to allow me to access and activate my voicemail account. Not sure why it wasn't seamless, because I didn't change wireless plans, I only changed phones. Once tech support did their thing they called me to make sure voicemail engaged and that I could access the vm they left me. It didn't work the first time (they could not leave a message) but once I turned the phone off for a minute, vm started working.  Thanks everyone for responding to my question!

Just had this same problem.  Didn't have to call because it reverts to the default password of "1234" at least for AT&T.

I Just got off the phone with AT&T and they were baffled because I was able to retrieve my voicemail by calling my own number or holding the 1 key down, but I couldn't get any visual indication that I had any voicemails.  All of the settings on their end showed that I had visual voicemail and all, but it didn't work.  I found this post and followed all the steps.  But after resetting my network settings and changing my voicemail password, it did the trick.  I should probably call AT&T back and tell them how I resolved it so they know how to help others...since they created a ticket number for my case.  I will just wait for them to call me back...

I just discovered I had the same problem, but I was able to solve it on my own.

Someone told me they left a voicemail, but my voicemail list was empty on the iPhone 6 (after upgrading from iPhone 4). In the upper-left, I clicked to set my greeting and it asked for my voicemail password. I entered my password and it retrieved my original message from the server. I hit save without changing anything and it left me logged in, so my voicemails then loaded.

I guess by default you are just not logged into your voicemail.
