Hi cmgh48. What operating system are you running? Ifyou have an operating system above 10.6 Snow Leopard you should have a restore partition on you Macbook. You get to it by holding down the option or option r keys at startup. That would allow you to reinstall. If You do not have a restore partition, you might be able to use internet recovery.  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT4718 Otherwise you will need the install disks that came with the Macbook. If you do not have them you can purchase Snow Leopard from the Apple store for $19.99.

The original install-restore discs (DVD) would be helpful to start completely over again.

Apparently your computer actually shipped with a version of Snow Leopard on its

original media. So a retail version would have to be newer than the one it came with.

If accurately identified as 13-inch, Early 2011 model, the original 10.6 DVDs should be

identified by numbers on them, plus they'd say MacBook Pro, etc. on gray label.

    Original OS    Mac OS X 10.6.6 (10J3210)

    Later OS    Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J4139)

But if there is a Recovery partition still in existence on the computer's hard disk drive,

that would be faster and enable you to avoid re-installing Snow Leopard 10.6.x...

Since it appears your computer actually shipped with a version of Snow Leopard on

DVD, for that specific series of MacBook Pro, you could call Apple support main #

or the main Apple Store number (online) and have your product serial number handy

and ask to confirm the original install-restore DVD disc set, and inquire if you can

buy a replacement DVD set for that computer. A set (if available) would include the

iLife and other applications it shipped with originally. If not, they may be able to send

you a later version Retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD that was produced later than your

MacBook Pro build date. You cannot use an OS X older than the one it shipped with.

So this detail is important, especially if you cannot find the original gray-label DVDs.

And if you go to sell, trade, or give away the computer, these DVDs will help remove

your personal info and disassociate your MacBook/Pro from your AppleID accounts.

    Good luck & happy computing!
