Dec 13, 2014 12:24 PM in response to krissoundzby Richybbes,Hi there,
After struggling for some time myself with the same issue I have managed to solve this problem. Firstly start by ensuring you are not mirroring from your Mac to the Apple TV. Then turn off your Bluetooth on your Mac. This should solve the issue (at least in great part). Once done you can reconnect to your Apple TV via AirPlay and begin streaming. If you are still having streaming issues try extending your desktop display rather than mirroring it and then obviously drag the screen you desire onto the TV display. This should solve your problem entirely!
Hope I helped :-)

Dec 31, 2014 3:07 AM in response to krissoundzby Doha_M,I have the same problem.
Recently bought an ATV 3 because I got bored with all the wire connecting with my macbook, then discovered it doesn't even support AirPlay. So, I went out and got myself a new Macbook Pro Retina because there were too many compatibility issues with other apple products and my 2008 Macbook (even after upgrading to Snow Leopard).
I am just amazed at how iPhone 5 does better when in AirPlay mode than the Retina which is much more powerful.
I am really ****** off at Apple at the moment, I literally spent more than half of my paycheck for this.

Jan 4, 2015 11:44 PM in response to krissoundzby jon mooney,Just went throughout this whole thread.
Same problem here, 2014 2.8ghz i7 Macbook Pro Retina 16GB Ram running 10.9.5 Mavericks,
Iphone 5s streams video perfect via Airplay to Apple TV 3rd Gen with no video lag,
try same on Macbook Pro in Extended Display mode and video frames stutter and lags
Also when I first open Airplay and choose Extended Desktop mode it often crashes and restarts my rMBP!
Might return Apple TV since its two weeks old.
I have an older router from ATT Uverse - 2 Wire 3600 HGV that operate in G mode but if video works fine on the iPhone 5s why not on rMBP?
I see some people suggest using Beamer but I like to stream Daily Show etc, so can't drag and drop flash videos.

Jan 5, 2015 12:35 AM in response to krissoundzby DJEmergency,I just want to give a bit of an update for all of you. I was able to fix my airplay issues, but I also began to notice my internet through my Mac was giving problems while airplay mirroring. I have a defected wifi/bluetooth card inside my Mac and have to ship it in for repair. Wish me luck!

Jan 8, 2015 10:34 AM in response to krissoundzby jon mooney,Thought I would update that I solved my issue with lagging video on rMBP,
After Apple agent recommend reinstalling Mavericks, there was unfortunately no change with lagging video output,
she then recommend a complete system wipe and reinstalling Mavericks fresh from reformatted drive,
this was not an option with my work commitments and having to reauthorize numerous software license nightmare....
So last effort was to call ATT Uverse and request an upgrade on my old router (2 Wire Gateway 3600 HGV) which just operated in G band.
They agreed since it was 4 years old and installed a Motorola NVG589 which works in the N band,
Bingo!!!
Lagging video gone from rMBP, Airplay working perfectly now,
I guess since the local network speeds have been considerably improved with this new router -
I only have the Elite package which gives me download speeds of 7MB
May bump that for better quality Netflix but am happy its all working now.
Hope this helps someone.

Jan 9, 2015 7:51 PM in response to jon mooneyby Vidb,I also have the same problem, I CAN play anything on my iPhone, iPad and ALSO my iMac which is running 10.8.5 BUT I cannot stream through my Macbook Pro Retina running 10.10.1 !
I have 2 ATV's one that is about 3 years old and the other only about 2 months and they are both the same, from this I would assume it is a Yosemite issue has anyone found a solution to this yet ?

Jan 11, 2015 11:18 AM in response to krissoundzby bigmichaelgrund,I don't know if this will help others. My mirroring was freezing. I live in the UK, My time zone was set to cuperto and region to US. I changes these to UK and it stopped my mirroring from lagging. ??

Jan 21, 2015 3:45 AM in response to krissoundzby danpinks,I had the same issue too - disabling the Apple Wireless Direct Link interface (awdl0) seemed to help at least.
You need to open up terminal to disable it, so type terminal into spotlight and hit the top hit, or locate it through finder, it's in Applications/Utilities.
Type sudo ifconfig awdl0 down into the console, then hit enter/return, type in your password (if prompted) and hit enter/return.
This works for the current session, so you'll need to repeat this every time restart/power down but pressing the up key in terminal will show last used command.
You could also try using Extend Desktop instead of Mirror Built-In Display in the AirPlay Menu, this also reduced lag for me.

Feb 1, 2015 2:50 AM in response to danielmoulton02by mmarkows,Hi Daniel, last part of your solution worked for me, but in a bit different way:
I've changed "Region" setting (Wireless->Wireless Settings via router's web interface) in my TP-Link TL-WR941ND router to "United States" (however I live in Europe), accepted message that I might be violating local law and it worked!
I guess this is related to different frequencies used in the US than in Europe (mentioned by you). This router works in 2.4 GHz frequency.
I've also changed Channel Width to 20 MHz.
Hope this helps.
Maciej.

Feb 4, 2015 1:01 AM in response to mmarkowsby RichardDuPre,I have the same problem with my brand new iMac (Yosemite 10.10.2) and ATV3. Today a guy from Apple Care told me that this lagging when mirroring or extending desktop to ATV3 is "normal behavior". I just bought the wrong product.... In fact it appears that streaming movies from iTunes on my iMac is flawless. According to this guy this is the way ATV is supposed to be used, and mirroring or extending desktop is a bonus. For Powerpoint presentations - without moving images - this will work fine; for more dynamic streams lagging will be the result.
In my opinion this is unacceptable. When re-reading the product page of ATV nothing of this kind is mentioned. I think I will try to get my money back, though Apple's reputation on this is questionable.

Feb 6, 2015 5:38 PM in response to krissoundzby amiralred,Hi there,
Everybody is experiencing the same after surfing all over the net. Boost your router or get a better one and then in the the mirroring window, make apple tv an extension of your desktop. It still lags... but less. This is an issue that should have been fixed long ago. This box is not cheap, it should at less do what advertised correctly before putting all the unnecessary crap that you find on it... I love Apple but this isn't right... So please Apple do something. Thanks in advanced...

Feb 7, 2015 6:26 PM in response to amiralredby Ph3rG0,I can't believe that this problem has something related to my hardware or my network. I have an early 2013 mac book pro retina, an iPad, Apple TV and my router is a 3TB time capsule.. The lag is tremendous.. But, if i use an app like beamer, the mirroring flows perfectly.. Unless the Beamer app has the power to change all my router and hardware configuration, its very clear to me that the problem it`s between the mac and the apple tv..
