Q: Upgrading iMac Retina with RAM from Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2012

I have 2x4 GB RAM modules from my Macbook Pro 13" (mid 2012), the RAM specification from the Macbook Pro is "1600 MHz PC3-12800 DDR3 SO-DIMMs". Can I use these RAM modules to upgrade my iMac Retina? The specification of RAM modules used in the Macbook seems to be the same as in the iMac Retina, at least according to this website -  iMac: How to remove or install memory - Apple Support.

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

The parts certainly appear to be similar if not the same.

Probably best to inquire from an upgrade expert whose business is to provide

such items to the Apple community, and one with a good reputation as well...

Here's a page where iMac with Retina 5K Display - memory modules - are listed:

    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/Retina-5K/DDR3L

A call to them or email should be able to answer your questions. Also note info

about how to install pairs of these in an iMac of this capacity. This iMac appears

to utilize similar RAM with 2012 MacBook Pro (13-inch w/ optical drive) & also

the Late 2012 Mac MINI i7 Quad-Core server 2.3/2.6GHz. But double check.

    Good luck & happy computing!
