Q: I just purchased an iPhone 6 to replace my iPhone 4s. Did the migration through iTunes, and everything seems to work except voicemail. How can I fix this?

I just purchased an iPhone 6 to replace my iPhone 4s. I did the migration through iTunes, and everything seems to work except voicemail. It worked on my old phone. This is also a current problem with my husband's new iPhone 6. He also migrated through my iTunes account. How can I fix this?

    Voice mail has nothing to do with iTunes. It's a carrier function. Can you explain in what way it isn't working?

        So, if I understand, you are having an issue with visual voicemail on a new device? Every time you get a new iPhone, visual voicemail is something that has to be set up again manually. Try this article:

    I just wanted to explain the details.  My husband and I both started checking out all the services on our new iPhone 6.  We called each other and left a voicemail test, and neither of them worked. No message was left on either of our new phones. We tried three times, and no message was recorded.

    That's incorrect. It generally carries over from one phone to the other unless you switch carriers. The only time you should need to set it up again is if there is some sort of glitch.

    I did not change carriers, we are using AT&T.

    So you're getting a the recording? How do you know that no message has been recorded? Are you going by the fact that nothing shows up in the voicemail app? Have you tried calling into the voice mail (usually done by calling your own number and interrupting the recording by pressing something like the # key, then putting in your passcode). It sounds as if your voice mail has defaulted back to standard voice mail. Call your carrier and have them reset the VM to the proper version for iPhones.

    Thank you. I am not getting any recorded messages, which I know have been left on my phone because my husband left me a few for a test, and they never showed up on the voicemail app or on my phone. I will try calling AT&T to see if they can help, as you suggested, Meg. By the way, I had never set a passcode for voicemail.

    If you've been using an iPhone, you may not be aware of or may have forgotten the password. AT&T does require it for standard VM.

     

    By "recording" I meant, when you call your husband's phone, do you hear his recorded greeting.

    Yup, I'm pretty sure your voicemail got reverted to standard voicemail. AT&T should be able to fix it pretty quickly.
