Q: Disk0s4 After Yosemite installation

Hi Loner T

I have read the thread you provided and it seems i have seen it before also. To be honest, if there's a fix that's great, however id like to do it without having to re install windows as i don't have my CD image anymore, i hope you have come across cases where this is possible?

It does look like from the fixes at least that my data and the windows OS are there its just remapping them i mean the files and Windows 7 itself haven't just vanished!

Also i would need some step by step instructions with your direct intervention as i don't understand a lot of the stuff in the instructions you have been giving to people, i mean i an execute based on your instructions but i am not an expert in the Mac OS. Can i ask if you are based in the US just thinking about the time difference involved as we try to resolve this.

I am very relived to see that there is at least a fix for this stupid stupid bug, as far as i am concerned a partition means exactly that, and installing a Mac OS update would not affect a partition that has nothing to do with Mac OS.

Anyway, your help in the process is appreciated.

Check page 5 of this thread. The Testdisk triplet is start/size/end, and we use start and +size.

    Post the output of

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "id" value is not correct in the latest Fdisk output.

    The table used was

GPT 3 StartGPT 3 SizeGPT 3 EndNTFS StartSector OffsetNTFS SizeNTFS End
    11759713612695361188666721188679681296371365881490233849

The Start/Size match in your GPT and Fdisk with this table.
With Windows repair, without using EasyBCD, you can use bootrec.exe to rebuild MBR and scan for OSes and rebuild BCD. Please see https://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392?wa=wsignin1.0.

do i go into bootrec from the repair usb?

also i rebuild MBR even tho i created a new one in FDisk?

    so i do the following

    /FixMbr

This option writes a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-compatible MBR to the system partition. It does not overwrite the existing partition table. Use this option when you must resolve MBR corruption issues, or when you have to remove nonstandard code from the MBR.

    /ScanOs

This option scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7. It also displays the entries that are currently not in the BCD store. Use this option when there are Windows Vista or Windows 7 installations that the Boot Manager menu does not list.

    /RebuildBcd

This option scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7. Additionally, it lets you select the installations that you want to add to the BCD store. Use this option when you must completely rebuild the BCD store.

The second set of Gdisk steps where the Hybrid MBR is built, the values between GPT and MBR are in Sync. The MBR Hex code in that set of steps uses default values as proposed by Gdisk. These defaults are read from the GPT side. If a tool subsequently modifies it then the MBR will be out-of-sync. If you re-run the second set of Gdisk steps, they will be synchronized again. There are two distinct attributes of an MBR which ar being manipulated, its location (which is manipulated by Gdisk) and its content (which is manipulated by bootrec.exe).

Use ScanOS first, which is what Startup Repair also uses to find 'lost' installations. The /FixMBR fixes the contents as well. /RebuildBCD is typically used when Boot Configuration Data (BCD) has been corrupted or there are device issues which cause BSODs. Unless necessary, RebuildBCD is not required.

so, your saying re do the gdisk steps - since i done these gdisk steps i havent used any tools to modify it so im not sure why it would now be out of sync

    do scan os

    then fix mbr

Yes, you will need the Recovery Shell. You should be able to boot into Windows or Repair it, if necessary, but unlikely.
