Feb 11, 2015 8:40 AM in response to tlbrueserby joe_7399,Hello tlbrueser,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that a disk is inserted into your iMac and it will not eject. You have already completed some great troubleshooting to force the disk to eject, but one further troubleshooting step that I would recommend would be to reset the System Management Controller (SMC). Please refer to the attached article for more information.

Doesn't eject discs or discs eject slowly
- If the drive ejects discs slowly or appears to be struggling, insert and eject a single disc several times. Check the disc to see if it has a label or other material stuck to the disc that increases the thickness. Remove the label if possible.
- If the disc will not eject, try pressing the eject key on the keyboard. Some older keyboards may use the F12 key to eject discs.
- If the disc will not eject, try dragging the disc icon to the trash.
- If the disc will still not eject, try holding down the trackpad or mouse button after restarting the computer. The Superdrive should attempt to eject the disc.
- If the disc continues not to eject, reset the System Management Controller (SMC) and try steps 1-4 again.
- If the disc still does not eject, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional assistance.
Have a great day,
Joe

Feb 11, 2015 9:49 AM in response to joe_7399by tlbrueser,Thank you Joe for the idea...had not come across that one yet. The audio CD is still inside. I tried all of my previous options and yours but do not seem to be able to eject the disk. Is it possible to unmount the SuperDrive in Disk Utility and keep my Buffalo BDXL as the default?
Thanks for your help!

Feb 11, 2015 5:57 PM in response to Old Toadby tlbrueser,Thanks OT, but I have tried that along with the other drutil code with no success. It sounds like the drive hears my command and mechanically functions, but the disk is out of place somehow to be ejected. This may be a hardware lesson. Any other ideas?

Feb 12, 2015 9:03 AM in response to tlbrueserby Old Toad,Some users have reported that slipping a 3x5 card in the slot so its under the disk and then ejecting worked for them. I've not tried it so proceed at your own risk. It might be time for a visit to the nearest Genius bar.
