Q: Computer randomly shuts down/Very unstable since upgrade to yosemite

Since upgrading to yosemite my computer has become very unstable.

For anyone that can help with what may be causing this issue I would really

appreciate it. As for "Adobe" being a possible cause, how can I determine

which Adobe program and related files are the culprit?

Thank you very much to anyone who offer's their support and help.

I tried to do the Apple hardware test w/no success.

It looks like your MBP came with Snow Leopard, so the AHT is on one of your install DVD's. Probably the one for "Applications".

"Shutting down randomly" may just be a kernel panic caused by remnants of the poorly written software.

Open Console app. In the log list on the left, click on the triangle next to System Diagnostic Reports to expand that section.

Look for a log report whose name begins with kernel and contains the date/time stamp for the time it was logged.

The report will have "panic(" starting one of the first few lines.

If you have any of those, copy the most recent text from that report anc paste it into a reply here. You can leave out the Anonymous UUID, but copy the entire rest of the report.

If you can't find a report that matches my description, then there isn't a panic log posted,

type "console" in the finder magnifying glass in the top right hand corner of the desktop, the console app will appear, click on the icon.

    • do you have pets?

    • do you have pets that shed?

    • do you have pets that sleep on your keyboard?

    • is your computer kept in a poorly ventilated area?

    • used near a space heater or is the room kept very warm?

any of these could affect the internal cooling of your MBP and are notorious overheating causes, but there has been reports on these forms of users who had issues with overheating once they upgraded to Yosemite.

If the problem persists I would also suggest looking into resetting your System Management Controller (SMC) using the procedure from Apple

    Barney,

That is not a problem at all, much less relevant to this problem.

Did you find Console? It is in your Utilities folder.

Did you find a kernel panic log?

    Barney,

There were no kernel panic log's. Computer seem's to be more stable since removing

CleanMyMac2 even though I believe there are still remnants left over that I would like to

clean up, I am however unsure how. Keychain is continuously popping up for permisson's

to use random different programs such a s safari, chrome, cloudd etc etc and its quite annoying.

    Thank you!

Do you have a good backup?

My advice to you would be to Erase the hard drive and reinstall OS X. When it starts up, create a new user account that is not your current user name.

Once done, Migrate your old user account over from the backup. Then, reinstall your necessary applications.

    Barney,

I do have a decent back up, however I also have things all over my desktop (Messy desktop)

and didn't really want to deal with doing that, but I guess I can just organize everything on my desktop

and then do a clean reinstall. I don't seem to have any other choice.

    Thank you again!

Kernel Panics normally result in a restart, not a shut down and the reports should show up in the EtreCheck report. There would also be a message indicating that it restarted due to a problem. See: OS X Yosemite: If your Mac restarts and a message appears.

As Barney-15E mentioned, this is something you can safely ignore. We used to get lots of them all the time and Apple even published this KB article telling us to ignore them, but managed to clean them up about the time Mavericks came out. There was a software update to Apple Remote Desktop a few days ago that brought it back, so most all of us now see that.

Follow the recovery procedure I posted in my initial reply to you. All the items in your Home folder, which includes your desktop, will be restored.
