Jan 9, 2015 10:06 AM in response to alex_h1by skelliest,Agree that this is a travesty. I signed up for Family Share to share music and apps. Now I have to choose: do I sign into my phone with my account so I can use Family Share for apps, or do I sign into my phone with my wife's account so I can use her iTunes Match? What a bad move by Apple, this completely defeats the purpose.

Jan 9, 2015 7:14 PM in response to alex_h1by Kdsooner,What am I missing? This post says music purchased in iTunes can be shared, but none of the music is showing up on the other family phones. What gives?

Jan 14, 2015 4:29 PM in response to alex_h1by ernestlehmann,Bad move, Apple. Another proof that Apple doesn't get the cloud. You should have a solution that allows a family to share media. Charge an Apple premium, but make it simple. This is not.

Jan 17, 2015 9:06 AM in response to brookefromaptosby djgude,I wish I had read this thread BEFORE buying match. I thought it would be great to have entire library shared through family sharing. I guess it's a learning lesson for me.
Several people mentioned before that it might be a rights issue concerning music distribution. This could be true. But it is also convenient for apple that only music purchased through itunes can be shared. Don't you think?

Feb 11, 2015 4:02 PM in response to brookefromaptosby GPDawes,I buy a CD anyone in my family can play it. My 2 year old knows hot to put a CD on.
I buy music in the digital format from apple in this new digital age and no one else can play it.
Why have family sharing?
I have ripped my collection to alac. Have all the original CD's in my attic.
I have the music on my NAS and iTunes on my mac can play it, as can my TV.
But my daughter wants a few songs on her phone and my wife on hers.
IOS has no native DLNA or iTunes server support to access the library on my server.
I thought I would use iTunes match to get my songs available on my families phones/ipads.
To make matters worse even if apple allowed me to share my collection via iTunes match, the quality would be restricted to 256kbps.
Come on apple £25 a year should allow my family to listen to CD's I own on their apple devices.

Feb 11, 2015 4:50 PM in response to brookefromaptosby chadbartley,Google play music is the answer. It is also free as well. Cancelling my iTunes match.

Feb 15, 2015 11:27 AM in response to Y3llow L4bby mlprater,I wonder if that's in agreement with the terms of service. I have thought about it too, but I never dug in.

Feb 15, 2015 10:04 PM in response to chadbartleyby The81,I like that alternative.
I'm assuming you'd just login to your google account on whatever device you choose and it's all there. Wouldn't that then work perfectly with Family Sharing for those purchase that have been made in iTunes?

Feb 15, 2015 10:38 PM in response to The81by chadbartley,Just download the google music app. It will then allow you to upload your music. It will then upload any iTunes purchases automatically after that as well. Then install app on any devices. Sign in and your music is there. Available to stream or download on to your device. Pretty sure your allowed ten devices per account.

Feb 15, 2015 11:02 PM in response to chadbartleyby The81,And it is also free so it is a perfectly compatible solution for a universal music library that works with Family Sharing for all of it's benefits as well. That's wonderful! I appreciate your input and am glad we were able to reach that together. Keep up the good work guys!

Apr 1, 2015 3:46 PM in response to brookefromaptosby Thomas Goodsell,Yup. Count me as another disappointed customer due to this. Just set up family sharing and discovered this shortcoming. I assume it's due to licensing issues, but it really does need to be resolved. (I can't speak for anyone else, but personally, I'd even be willing to pay a small amount per extra account, if that's what it takes. But not $25, and it needs to give access to the shared pool of music.)

Apr 19, 2015 6:51 PM in response to brookefromaptosby goitaly,This is a great disappointment and honestly a rip off. The ONLY reason I purchased I tune match is to allow my wife to listen to our music collection on her ipad and iphone,
if apple won't allow family sharing on iTunes match they should make it very visible before you purchase it.

Jun 30, 2015 6:27 PM in response to goitalyby mrvco,It definitely stinks that "Family Sharing" doesn't work for iTunes Match content, even if you have an iTunes Match subscription for both Apple ID's. I'm left to import the music my wife likes from my library into her library and vice versa.
At least allow two iTunes Match paid subs in a Family Share to access each other's iTunes Match content and save me the trouble of duplicating libraries on two different Apple ID's.

Jul 3, 2015 8:18 AM in response to mrvcoby Snapper67,I just signed up for Match. Wish I had done some more research. I wanted to share my music with family members. If that is not possible, I just paid for no real benefit. 12 hours into Match, I will immediately go and turn off automatic renewal. Now I am reluctant to start the free trial of Music.
