Q: Help me kill the popup menu animation

Does anyone know how to disable the menu animations in 10.10?  Horrible especially when working fast in Photoshop.  I'm "this close" to wiping the HD and reverting to Mavericks because of all the buggy UI issues in Yosemite.  The redraw in Photoshop menus are slow.  Not slow enough to warrant a fix according to the Apple rep "I should be able to live with a little lag",  but it slow enough to make the UI feel like mud.

I'm thinking that it would be a little help if I were able to kill the popup and input field animations.

Thanks for any help!

If you mean the GUI animations, such as folder windows expanding open and closed, and all of the other unnecessary eye candy, you can use OnyX to turn all of that stuff off. Be sure to download the Yosemite version.

Launch the app and click the Parameters heading. Click on the General tab and turn off the check box for "Graphic effects when opening window". Click the Finder tab and uncheck both of the items under "Graphic effects:".

Thank you for the response.  I should have been a little more specific.  I'm referring to pull down menu and field focus menu animations.

I'm using Photoshop CC 2014 in Yosemite and am seeing no lag issue. Not even when running all day. This on a 2010 Mac Pro with 16 GB of RAM.

I can't say I know what you mean by "field focus menu animations". I can't even think of anything that animates in Photoshop, and I've been using it for decades. You mention the pull down menus. So do you mean the way items display through with transparency? Like this?

If so, that can be kind of annoying. You can essentially turn that off by opening the System Preferences and clicking on the Accessibility icon. With the Display heading highlighted at the left, turn on the check box to Reduce transparency.

That will virtually eliminate all transparent effects throughout the OS. If you mean something else, can you provide a screen shot?

Thanks for the reply.  It seems that some machines get the lag and others don't but it's known that there are graphics card issues with PS in 10.10

But... I'm talking about the pulldown menu and focus field animations.  PS layers panel, layer mode pulldown is animated in 10.10.  The linked post below has an illustrated example of system wide pulldown animation.  I want to get rid of that – if possible.  :  )

Hmm, may be dependent on the video card. I see no animations of any kind with either pull down menus or check boxes.

Is this the animation you're referring to?

If the upper one represents what you mean in Yosemite, I don't get that type of menu animation at all. Not even if I turn the settings in back on that I had disabled with OnyX.

That's it.  Strange that you don't see it.  Must be card related – as you said.  Imagine that happening to the well populated layer mode pulldown in PS!  It's like working in mud.

Just bumping this again since some time has gone by.  Does anyone have a solution for the pulldown animation?

    Thanks!!
