Q: Messages says Not Delivered

On my Mac running Yosemite when I open up Messages and choose a contact (a one that has imessage enabled and I can message with via my phone) to send the message to and I click send I get an instant (less than a second) feedback that it was not delivered.

In the console I see right after I send

21/10/14 14:40:35,703 imagent[240]: [Warning] Request to send message: IMMessageItem[outgoing: YES sender=(null); service=iMessage; handle=secretEmailAddressThatIChanged; unformatted=(null); country=(null); roomName='(null)'; flags=100005; subject='<< Message Not Loggable >>' text='<< Message Not Loggable >>' messageID: 47 GUID:'F563CCF5-3A9C-4C89-9F8F-167D0131949E' date:'435584435.000000' date-delivered:'0.000000' date-read:'0.000000' date-played:'0.000000' transfer guids: '(null)' empty: NO finished: YES sent: NO read: NO delivered: NO audio: NO played: NO from-me: YES DD results: NO DD Scanned: YES Downgraded: NO emote: NO expirable: NO expire-state: 0 error: 0] to chat: IMDChat: 0x7fed82c76520 GUID: iMessage;-;secretEmailAddressThatIChanged Style: - State: 3 Participants: (

I have tried the following things to get this fixed but without any success:

  • Deleting ~/Library/Messages and restarting
  • Signing out on all devices including my mac
  • Making sure timezone is correct and resetting it to trigger an update
  • Making sure all devices have the same list of email addresses

Any ideas how to get messages working on my mac?

    Thank YOU!!! @rh10023 and kazz_11!!!

I have been searching for a solution for two days now and this worked for me!!!

I followed everything here that rh10023 described:

    1) Open Key Chain Access ( go to Applications>Utilities)

    2) Select Login at the top left side under Keychains

    3) Select All Items on the lower left side under Category

    4) Search for entries of IDS.

    5) Highlight and delete all entries that has IDS.

    6) Search for entries of FaceTime

    7) Highlight and delete all entries of FaceTime

    8) Search for entries of Messages

    9) Highlight and delete all entries of Messages

    10) Reboot!

    THANKS!!

    @rh10023

I had all sorts of problems after installing the final release of Yosemite. The beta worked somewhat OK except that the first beta did not finish it's install and I could not reinstall it c'se the installer said that It already was installed.. bah.. the second public version did finish so I was able to use my computer again, and after that the public betas worked fine. So did my computer until I installed the final version where all other accounts on my MacPro late 2008 worked fine but mine was unable to start any programs or open files. After removing keyless, correcting rights in all ways, my account finally worked exept iMessage and FaceTime but with your solution I think that everything is up and running again.

THANX a lot for this fix! It's stored in the "great solutions" folder

    Have a happy new year!

Got sometime today to call Apple Support.  I happen to have bought Apple Care for my Macbook Air, so I really did not have a problem getting though.  I think I read in one of the posts here to create a separate account on the Mac then log into Messages from there.  That is what the Senior Technician did and then he knew what he needed to do but needed to escalate to engineering first.  The Sr Tech called me back and told me that I am experiencing a problem that existed in Mavericks and Yosemite was suppose to fix this.  But they are seeing reports where some users are experiencing this problem.  So here is the fix that the tech walked me through.

    1) Open Key Chain Access

    2) Select Login at the top left side

    3) Select All Items on the lower left side

    4) Search for entries of IDS.

    5) Highlight and delete all entries that has IDS. (For me I am going to need to re-install my RSA SecurID Software Token)

    6) Search for entries of FaceTime

    7) Highlight and delete all entries of FaceTime

    8) Search for entries of Messages

    9) Highlight and delete all entries of Messages

Thanks so much for this! Been trying to figure this out for two days and this was the solution.

But it didn't fix it immediately for some reason, took a few hours for it to right itself.

This definitely works! I was just on an hour long call with Apple Support and they had me go through the exact same steps. They said it was some problem with key chain not saving the Apple ID password for iMessage and FaceTime properly.

I'm having the same problem -- meanwhile it says "Delievered" but they are defienetly not delievered. Also, messages that were sent with the iPhone are not being synced on the computer.

I did everything with the keychain and so on but nothing helps -- any more ideas how to fix this ??

When I'm logging in on the computer at work everything is working fine right from the beginning...

    Hi,

I would delete the Apple ID from the iPhone then place the iPhone in Airplane mode to break with the servers.

On taking the iPhone out of Airplane Mode check the iPhone Number is Active.

Then Add back the Apple ID.

When the Pop ups appear on the Mac accept them. (even if they say the same info it already has).

Okay I did that. Problem not solved. Also there was no Popup on the Mac.

When I'm loggin in on the Mac at work there is always popping up a window on my phone but not for my personal Mac...

Also when I send messages from my Mac to my phone number they only deliever to the mac. Nothing is showing up in the messages app on the phone.

Basically everything with the iPhone is fine -- only iMessages from my Mac at work or the Phone are being sent. Everything from my personal Mac is not being delievered. No matter if it says "Delievered" or "Not delievered"

    Hi,

If the Work Mac is using the same Apple ID in iMessages  it should not keep causing pop up on the iPhone each time it logs in to the iMessages servers.

    It should happen once.

The only exception I can think of is if you use the guest account at work and not your own login.

The Home Mac if it is Off when you are at work should show at least one set of Pop ups from the work Mac when the Messages app is started.

When you start up the app on the Home Mac do you get any error messages ?

Are you getting any indication that the account in not logging in ?

It would normally be an Error message or a info text saying Not Delivered or the Contacts going red and you being told they were Not registered ?

Can you iMessages from the iPhone (Set it to use the iPhone Number) to the Mac (Apple ID) ?

    Hi,

I have.  (It was issued after this thread started).

    I don't see the relevance.

It suggests checking you have the relevant hardware to do Handoff or Continuity.

Then in relation to the Messages app it has a section on SMS.

    Ralph,

I have had the same "messages not delivered" and "Your message could not be sent *****.com is not registered with iMessage" issue in late January and did a first level case session and a second level with an Apple Senior Tech Support.  The Senior Tech. could see that my iMac was "deregistered" and they had me do several things in Keychain none of which worked.  It was referred/escalated to Apple engineering.  After 5 days the issue appeared to solve itself.  I called the Senior Tech back to let her know and she did not know how it was fixed.  She said to call her back with my case number if it occurred again within 30 days.  Well it has happened again in 33 days.  I have left voice mails with the Senior Tech to see if I need to start over at Level One again.  This issue does not occur on my AppleID on any of the three(3) other Macs I have or on my iPhone or my iPad.  They all work fine. I am using 10.10.2 Build 14C109 on a 27" late 2013 iMac.  I am getting ready to follow the instructions of user rh10023 if I do not hear a response from Apple next week.  I apologize for the long post.  Do you have any other suggestions?

    Rick

    Hi,

I take it you looked at the Keychain again ?

It is late where I am and it will be a while before I am back.

    Ralph,

Thank you for replying.  See that it is late.  No, have not touched KeyChain yet as I am trying to give Apple Support a chance.  Also as a side note, I looked at some other threads where they started mysteriously working when my first occurrence started and they stopped working when mine started working.  It is as if Apple is doing a reboot on a server out in the Cloud and fixing some and breaking others.  Will reply when I hear from Apple Support or give up and purge my KeyChain.

    HI,

The iMessages servers are "out there" somewhere.

Other than checking the Apple ID's password on first registration that create the Auth Token in the Keychain it has little to do with the actual iCloud servers  (If you check System Preferences > iCloud there is nothing about the iMessage account the Messages app or even using the Apple IDs ending in @me.com or @iCloud.com as AIM names.)

Luckily all the servers are separate so if you happen to use the same one in iTunes, Game Station, App Store, FaceTime, iMessages or iCloud there is not a catastrophic failure.

    Hi,

Received a phone call from Apple Support this morning and while we did not make any file changes, we did do a capture of my log files to send to engineering.  I should receive a callback in 24 - 48 hours.  Fingers crossed.

Also had a discussion about the Parallels VMs' that I had been running on my iMac.  I asked if that could potentially be causing an issue as they are OS X VMs'. 10.8 and 10.9 in Parallels.  I had received messages on the iMac that the 10.9 VM had logged on to messages while I was not even running the VM.  The VMs' had also shown up on my iPhone under "Messages/Text Message Forwarding".  His opinion is that it could be compounding my issue.  He said that Apple does not support running OS X VMs'.  Nice to know.  Thanks for checking in and as soon as I get a callback I will post.

    Rick
