Q: Cannot purchase HD movies in Itunes

I have windows 7 64 bit, nvidia graphics card 650 Ti, have 100 gb free, my 'monitor' is a large LG TV (that my computer registers as 1920x1080p resolution), i have an intel core i5 3.40 GHz. My Itunes is updated (version 12.something). What is wrong that I am unable to purchase hd movies? My graphics card, after looking up the specs on the website, do support hdcp. the only thing i could possibly guess is that i am not using an hdmi cable to connect from my pc to my tv monitor (unfortunately the hdmi port on my computer went out). Any guesses or troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Garnet Rain,

Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines the specific Windows requirements for purchasing HD videos in iTunes:

Purchasing and viewing HD videos in iTunes - Apple Support

    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201850

Windows system requirements for HD 720p content

    • 32 or 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows 8; Windows XP and Vista don't support HDCP
    • iTunes 10 or later
    • 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor
    • At least 1 GB of RAM
    • A video driver that supports HDCP (you may need to check with the manufacturer to determine if your video driver supports HDCP)
    • A display that supports HDCP with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher with a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI)

If your computer doesn't meet all of the above requirements, you will be unable to purchase, rent, or view HD content from the iTunes Store.

At first glance, it sounds one of the last two requirements may not be met. You stated you don’t have an HDMI connection, what connection are you using? Note that the requirements are a digital connection.

Also, are you receiving an error message when attempting to purchase HD videos/movies? If so, what is the error message?

    Thanks,

    Matt M.
