Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

@Alex: Good idea, wonder why this didn't pop up in my mind before.

Regarding the output mine's a Samsung too:

    Color LCD

    LSN154YL01-A01

    DLM339503FVFF0PAC

Maybe this will lead to identifying a certain range or batch so I'd also encourage to gather and post this info here.

    ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

    It returns only:

    @.`0 6

    Color LCD

This command probably doesn't work with MBPr13''

    ioreg -lw0 | grep -i "DisplayVendorID"

    returns

    "DisplayVendorID" = 1552

and I can't find what does it mean

Rafal you can look up the model of the screen under settings, display, color tab, then select the top one and open profile, lookup the model A00.....( on my cellphone right now)

I'm from Germany and got a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina. First one i've got was damaged on the bottom. Than they send me the one i've own right now and now i have this display issue. It's ***** so bad! I thought if i buy a laptop for over 2000 euro i could live in peace for at least 3 years.

Very good idea. Maybee it's brand or batch related.

The serial number might indicate whitch batch.

My old screen with the problem did get replaced.

The new one is a LG screen. No problems so far.

I'm adding myself to the list, and have joined the Facebook post. I have a 2013 MBP retina and had the screen replaced under warranty because it had missing pixels. Now I've got an out-of-warranty screen with this stain damage.

Apple, please could you stop removing people's legitimate posts to this thread and instead give us a response?

If, like on my screen, you can have AR damage right next to the black rubber seal it cannot be due to pressure on the lid.

If you can use water and the Apple cloth, as recommended by Apple, and remove the AR coating yourself then it is totally unreasonable to blame customers for using the wrong cleaning products.

These Retina laptops are marketed almost entirely around their screens. For the screens to deteriorate so quickly and with such poor results seems to be quite outrageous.

Hi everyone, I also joined the club yesterday with my RMBP 13inch from October 2013. Fortunately, the damage is pretty small, I have a small stain on the right corner of the bezel at the bottom. Do you think that there is a high probability that this will expand to other parts as well as time passes or not? Thank you!

Hi guys. I have the same problem and this clearly is a design problem.

We all have had bad experiences in both official Apple stores and partners stores separately so I think is time to make Apple seriously aware of this issue and ask them to find us a free and permanent solution. We are all Apple loyal customers and this problem clearly is not our fault, it is not driven by bad use so we need to join forces and push the company to solve this.

I have created an online database so the people that want can get it and share your problem details, pictures as well as your Macbook details and contact info. As soon as I have an important amount of people (let's say 50 - 100 people) I will start contacting Apple employees via social networks and provide them with details of the people in the list.

    https://macbookscreenproblem.wufoo.com/forms/zsnnv1p0gc67dc/

Of course this DB is STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL and will ONLY be used to contact Apple and show them that there is a significant amount of people with this problem and that we are demanding a solution to this.

Let's join forces and fix this annoying problem.

    Thanks,

    Eduardo
