Q: airplay icon sometimes shows, mostly doesn't show

When I open music with my 3rd gen ipod touch, the airplay icon is usually missing, but once in awhile it appears. Is this a common problem? What do I do to fix it? Thanks.

Yes, I should have mentioned that I've searched the community for an answer, and have read the troubleshooting page that you linked.

The sporadic nature of my problem is what's annoying.

It will only appear if there's an Airplay compatible device to AirPlay to, on the same Wifi network as the iPod.

If you are connected to the same network and it disappears, then it may be something in the network that is causing the iPod to not find the Airplay device.

It never "disappears". It either appears (rarely, say 10% of the time) or doesn't appear at all. BTW, airplay always works with my iPad, the sporadic problem is with my old gen ipod touch.
