Q: data roaming

Hi everybody, since I istalled Ios 8 I got a problem with my Iphone 5S: I travel very often and when I leave my country I switch the Data Roaming Off; this has worked since the Io s8, from that point on I have a lot of connections t the APN, and sometimes my provider charges me the fare correspondin to the connection in the country I'm saìtaying, even though the data transfer was equal to 0KB. I've spent a lot of miney since now, and every time I leave, I try somenthing new, but with no result. Last time I took with me my old Iphone 3S and there were no connections, and no charges. So it seems the problem is in the phone. Below you can see a picture of the operator app where you can see your connections: look at 15.40.46 on feb 16th: I was in South Corea, data roaming was off and they charged me 5 Euros for a =kb connections.....and look how many connections took place the same day, even at no charge! They shouldn't happen  in my opinion!

In the new Ios 8 version when you disable the celluar data you automatically disable Data Roaming; in fact the switch disappears, so I think disabling cellular data should be enough.

My provider replied that the problem is in the phone, and this could be true....in one of my trips abroad I took my old iphone 3 and there were no connections to the APN.....at that time I had reset my 5s as a new one ( no apps installed unless the one provided by the manufacturer ), so the only difference between the 2 phone was the presence of Facetime on the 5.....does the problem cames from it?

Yes, FaceTime use cellular data if not connected to Wi-Fi.

Yes, I know, but don't forget that I use it under WiFi with Cellular Data disabled!

It seems this is not the solution.....

Best you make an appointment with Apple genius bar for an evaluation.

It'll be easier to test your hardware if they have your iPhone at hand.

I got lost in all the proposals and your rejections. Could you state succinctly exactly what you want to do and want not to do. I'll bet there is a setting solution - but there is no free lunch.

Hi George, thank you for your assistance. Briefly: I often travel abroad, before leaving I switch Cellular data Off; when I turn my 5s on again, I see my credit going down. Looking at the data traffic, I see that the phone connects very often to my provider APN, the data trasfer is usually 0Kb and I have no charges, but every now and then they charge 5 Euros. One suggested me to maintain the phone in airplane mode, and this works, but I think this is not a solution, itìs only a way to avoid charges and I feel frustrated because I have a phone I cannot use abroad. I've been abroad since 5 years, but this has started after the IOS8 installation, last october, before I had no problem. My provider says it's a problem of the phone, and this is confirmed because once I took with me an old 3S and there were no connections. I've also tryed to reset the phone, both from a previous state and as a new phone, but nothing changed! I've request assistance by phone to apple but there's no solution since now. Do you think yu can help me? Below a picture from the provider app: that day I was abroad, cellular data off and so many connections, one of which was charged with data traffi equal to 0KB.

    Thank you
