Q: Can no longer scan with my MP800 Canon printer

I've seen lots of posts on this, and it is extremely frustrating that I'm starting to think it's just assumed that the owners of MP800 Canon printer/scanners will just toss out a perfectly good, little-used piece of hardware and buy something new. I've tried going to the HP site, loading the new drivers, etc.  I've also tried changing from MP Navigator to Image Capture, but nothing happens when I open the Scanner, except for an empty screen that turns completely white when I click on Show Details.

I am REALLY disappointed in Apple OS update.  In the PC world (which I bought a mac to get away from) I would just uninstall the entire printer, then re-install it and count on the correct drivers etc. to be loaded.  I've tried to find a way to do this on the forums, but no luck.  Is there any way to un-install the printer/scanner completely?  And then re-install it to pick up the new drivers/software or whatever, that would work?

Thanks for the advice. I saw indeed that I could scan with the scanner drivers (slightly different layout as the one you mentioned) but the resulting interface is not convenient at all for multi pages scan.

Looking for a user friendly solution to scan a few pages and create a pdf. the MP Navigator I had used to  let me choose with pages I wanted to export in the pdf, change the order (in case of mistake), etc etc.

    I'm missing it

    Hi, I Switch 2 Mac

I have  exactly the same problem since upgrading to Yosemite, the save buttons are in the wrong place and don't work. Did you find a solution to the problem?

    Many thanks, gromitlad

    Hi Gtomitlad

unfortunately not to my entire satisfaction. The application you and I were familiar with no longer works and is no longer supported by canon. I wrote them and they simply said they don't care (more nicely said but that eas the message)

For a one page scan, we can still use the canon application but using the "use scanner driver"  You will get to a different interface but you will be able to scan your document.  For multi pages scan, i'm still looking for a application which provides the same easiness and functionalities. Not found yet. If you know one, I'm happy to have your advice

    Hi, I Switched 2 Mac

Thanks for your reply and help. I will try the "use scanner driver" not sure at the moment how too, but I'll have a look at it.

This is a real shame, although the MP800 is a few years old, its still a great printer / scanner. I don't want to scrap it, thats a real waste of money.

    Many thanks again.

I fixed this myself today on my PIXMA MP500.  Go to you tube and search for

OSX Yosemite Canon Printer / Scanner Fix

and follow their very clear directions.  Then to scan, open up MP Navigator and choose to scan using the lower left button/option "scan with scanner driver."

You have to use the scanner driver option because the save/mail option on the main MP Navigator screen doesn't work.  So from the scanner driver, go into the preferences, and uncheck the auto save function, and check the manual save function.  Then you can scan away and save the scanned file to wherever you want.  A royal pain, but at least I found a work around.  After you manually save the scan it will default to the MP navigator folder, but I just save to my desktop.  I can't believe i actually pulled this off and got my scanner to work.  Yay me.  I am using a 15 inch mid 2012 MBP and running 10.10.2  Super bogus on Canon's part to abandon support of so many of their printers and Yosemite.  I won't be buying another one of their products.

After hours of searching, cleaning, downloading, and again the cleaning, not to mention the swearing, I can finally save my scanned documents.

Thanks to you. Way too simple.

    You' re the Best.
