Feb 17, 2015 7:39 PM in response to oxonianarcherby my ginger,Hi There is no way to tell exactly how long a battery will last. To many variables. You can go to the top menu and click on the apple and about this mac. Then open the system profiler ( it may me called more info or system) and click on power to see how much charge capacity you have left. You could do a SMC reset which may or may not help.http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295 http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201585 In this last link it shows the screen with the power settings Pay attention to charge remaining and full charge capacity. As the charge remaining goes down the sooner you are to needing to replace it.

Feb 18, 2015 6:36 AM in response to oxonianarcherby oxonianarcher,Ok so I woke up this morning and the warning is gone. Double checked in the about mac, system report page: it says battery is normal. I set up a genius bar appt for this Saturday already. I guess I'll just go in and see if they can shed some light?

Feb 18, 2015 11:39 AM in response to oxonianarcherby OGELTHORPE,It is not that unusual for the battery status to fluctuate from one status to another. Batteries are not rock stable devices.
Ciao.

Feb 19, 2015 8:25 AM in response to OGELTHORPEby oxonianarcher,Should I still get it checked out or can I write it off as a fluke/non-concerning event?

Feb 19, 2015 8:37 AM in response to oxonianarcherby OGELTHORPE,When the reading is 'Service Battery' consistently for a week or two, then I would bring it in to be looked at.
If it is 'Replace Now' or 'Replace Soon', then do take action. Ignoring those warnings may result in the battery expanding and damaging your MBP.
Ciao.

Feb 19, 2015 8:42 AM in response to OGELTHORPEby oxonianarcher,It says "Normal" now under the About This Mac section, so I guess I'll keep monitoring it. If it changes to anything else (Replace Soon, Replace Now), I'll have it looked at. Thanks for your advice!
