Q: My iPod won't turn on!

So I found my long lost iPod touch 5 in a drawer today and I've been trying to revive it but it won't turn on! When I plug it into the wall it just shows the little white apple on the screen as if you were turning it on for about 5 seconds, it goes away, then it shows up again! When I unplug the device it immediately stops. I tried plugging it into my laptop with a USB cable and iTunes won't recognize it nor with the iPod flash with the Apple logo like it does when it's plugged into the wall (my iTunes is the latest version, I've checked). I've tried the whole hold the home and sleep button at the same time, try to make iTunes recognize it, the whole shebang! Please help, I really don't want to have to take it back to the Apple store and/or get a new one!!

P.S. I don't care if what will make it work erases everything on the iPod, I just want it fixed.

Thanks,

Macey

Wow, I've honestly never heard of this problem, but, if you don't mind causing harm to your iPod touch, then I would personally suggest plugging it into a wall outlet for around five hours, the unplug, then connect to a car charger for as long as possible, then use the lightning cord to connect it to a computer that is very reliable, if the computer itself recognizes the device, if so, try the whole holding in the home and sleep button at the same time, then around five seconds later, release the home button

When you tried the reset (hold the Home and Power buttons at the same time), did you keep them both pressed for at least 30 seconds?

Whenever I do that it just makes the screen go completely black then when I let go it goes back to the on and off apple sign. After I do that, I press just the home button then it sometimes, but only sometime, says to connect the iPod to iTunes. But when I unplug it, it immediately dies. Do you think my battery could be the problem and it could just be shot? I haven't used the iPod in a REALLY long time but can that happen to batteries over a long time off no usage like that?

    Thanks for the help,

    Macey

OK, but when it goes completely black, continue to hold the buttons until the Apple logo comes up on it's own. Do not let go until the logo comes up, then once it does, let go.

If still problem try the remaining items of:

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

    - Try another cable

    - Try on another computer

    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
