Q: Airplay not working with imac

Hello I am having trouble connecting my imac to apple tv via airplay. I have connected with no problem in the past.

Currently connecting to apple tv via my ipad works no problem, so it leads me to believe something is wrong in the imac.

When connecting Imac the apple tv screen flickers but then displays a blank/black screen.

I know people have discovered a problem with the application air parrot, However have never had that program on my imac.

Below are my systems info

imac

iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)

Running Yosemite 10.10.2

apple tv

model mc572ll/a (2nd gen)

running 6.2.1.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, as I am stumped at this point.

Thanks

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), apple tv 2nd gen

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    2. Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    6. Restart your mobile device.
