Feb 22, 2015 8:45 AM in response to Dantariby digitalcyclist,Just installed iTunes 12.1.1 and the update either contained something that fixed home sharing under Windows 64bit 8.1, or the installation process cleaned up some registry entries, or something!
Bottom line - with no changes other than installing 12.1.1, Home Sharing is now working - I can see/share library with other Win iTunes, and with Apple TV.

Feb 22, 2015 9:32 AM in response to digitalcyclistby RosOne,Downgraded iTunes to 12.0.1.26 to have home sharing working. I saw your post and updated to the latest version 12.1.1.4 and guess what... not working again. Well, time to downgrade one more time.

Feb 22, 2015 5:38 PM in response to Dantariby digitalcyclist,Yep, it was 12.1.1.4 that I installed, and voila, it's all working as used to and as we'd expect it to.

Feb 23, 2015 7:18 AM in response to Dantariby digitalcyclist,I retract my update. Home Sharing still broken.
After upgrading to iTunes 12.1.1.4, it worked for a while. This morning, no longer working. Stopping/restarting iTunes, rebooting PC, all to no avail.
Think I'll continue to store my music in the iTunes library for now, but switch to Plex for playlists, playing, sharing, etc. I gave up on iTunes video a while ago to move to Plex, and will now complete that migration. Apple, you can do better!

Feb 23, 2015 8:14 AM in response to digitalcyclistby BerettaBoy,Just an update on my experience to date.
Home Sharing worked for one day using the changes in my previous post - then stopped!
In desperation I unplugged my LAN connection on the PC and enabled the Wi-Fi.
Re-booted...and all is working again - and has been for several days now.
Seems like some of the comments relating to LAN/Networks earlier in this post may be valid, although the reason why is uncertain.
As a suggestion to others, if you cannot switch networks (as a previous poster did and as I have effectively done) disabling/enabling the adapter and an CMD, IPconfig/Renew might help?
(Sorry, I'm not going to try it on mine, as its now working - but good luck & I hope the information helps)

Feb 23, 2015 8:37 AM in response to BerettaBoyby Stinsonddog,My problem is on a LAN. In my case this is my PC for photoshop and media, and its a desktop without wifi. Seems like it should work. LAN might be the culprit but why. Thanks for the insights.

Feb 23, 2015 2:42 PM in response to Dantariby BurryF,I had the problem on Windows 8.1 after upgrading to iTunes 12.1.1.4. What fixed it for me:
- Quit iTunes. File > Exit
- Right-click on iTunes icon on the desktop and click 'Run as administrator'. Home Sharing is now working on my AppleTV, iPhone, and iPad.
- Exit iTunes.
- Start iTunes in the normal way (non-administrator). Everything still working.

Feb 24, 2015 5:07 PM in response to Dantariby AppleLife3000,I was having the same problem, although my version of Windows is fairly old.
I followed a previous post and did an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew from the cmd prompt and this fixed my problem. This is a pretty quick thing to do to see if it resolves the issue. Of note, I also updated to the latest version of iTunes 12.1.1. What was confusing for me is the my Mac running iTunes could be seen on home sharing with Apple TV 3 but Windows machine running iTunes was not showing up. Turns out to be a network thing.

Mar 3, 2015 5:53 PM in response to Dantariby dhvizdo,I have been trying to get Itunes 12 home sharing to stay visible since october, bought new router, changed firewall settings, disabled tcpv6, home sharing would not stream a single movie complete, 5min to 1 hour before it dropped. Multiple win 8.1 computers doing this.
Soulution that finally left me some hair for now was to go back to itunes 11.4, Frustrating that Apple cant get a handle on this.

Mar 4, 2015 3:51 PM in response to dhvizdoby banner1124,Another vote for downgrading to version 11.4. I just completed the downgrade and Home Sharing works like a charm again. I'm glad that some folks seem to be having success with some of the other methods mentioned, but this is clearly something that was broken by Apple with iTunes 12 and needs to be fixed by Apple. There should be no tweaking of existing system or network variables necessary. I will probably just hold on to 11.4 until there is widespread confirmation that a newer version of this software doesn't break Home Sharing.

Mar 15, 2015 8:43 PM in response to Dantariby TheBulldog,Here's what I did...
I have Windows7, but this would work with whatever OS.
1) I went here...
Mac OS X
/Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.itl
/Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.xmlWindows XP
\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.xmlWindows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8
\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.xml2) Close iTunes, then change the extension to .old on both of the files listed above.
3) Open iTunes, my Library was gone and was to be expected.
4) Close iTunes, then delete the two new files created (iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml). Then rename the .old files back to the original extensions.
Good Luck!!

Mar 17, 2015 7:11 AM in response to Dantariby monaarts,Okay - so none of this stuff worked for me but I figured something out, thankfully!
Go to preferences > sharing > and change the name of your computer. Restart your AppleTV and enjoy.

Mar 29, 2015 1:38 PM in response to monaartsby Femioo,As my Apple TV stopped working after the usual UK time change, I went to general ~ time zone and set automatically ON
Got my sharing back

Apr 15, 2015 3:46 PM in response to Dantariby Stinsonddog,With 12.1.2.27 I am now up and running again. I did rename my library. Also I had to reopen the new iTunes a few times and restarted my ATV. Happy to have it working again. Sorry I didn't carefully document the steps.
