Q: working with iMac G3 questions

Hello, I am experiencing some difficulty with my older iMac G3 computer. I put in a dvd into it's disk drive and when I tried to eject the disk, it wouldn't come all the way out, it was getting stuck in the disk drive. It was trying to eject, but it was sticking. What can I do to fix this?

My other question is, can I use an iPod to use as a hard drive to connect to the iMac g3 and get what I want off of its hard drive and put some of the information from it onto the newer computer? Would I have a problem connecting the iPod to the older computer then connecting it to the newer computer?

iMac, Mac OS 9.2.x, iMac G3

I've asked the hosts to move your question to the correct forum - as a G3 running OS 9.x is not an Intel iMac. Good luck!

It was trying to eject, but it was stickin

The drives seem to slow down with age.

Give it a try.  Using a flash drive is the usual way.  Should format the flash drive for hfs (???) extended -- a mac format.

The earlier model iPod had a FireWire port, so that could work to move files

between computers, and it may work to perform a backup to an Mac OS

if the formatting were correct in the iPod's drive, for use with Mac OS 9 or X.

Later USB ported iPods probably would be unable to help where OS X or

other system software were involved. A utility may be needed to move any

software that does not prefer to be drag-drop installed, or system owned

by an OS X where copying by drag/drop may fail. Early OS X had its own

problems; so hopefully you can use early vintage iPod w/ FW to help. Or

if not too out-of-range, a USB based device could be used. Slowly.

    Good luck & happy computing!
