Q: No Sound on iPhone 4S after iOS 8 Upgrade

After updating to iOS 8 on my iPhone 4S, at first there kinda was sound for a brief period of time of about a day or two. However, that sound was noticeably distorted and inconsistent as it would go in an out. Now the phone is completely not outputting any sound at all for any function or app. I've already tried turning the phone off and on, no change. I tried rebooting the phone by holding the home key and power button together, no change.

Is there any fix I can implement now? Or am I stuck waiting until Apple releases a patch update to iOS 8?

I have the same problem - NO SOUND when I get texts, etc. It will work sometimes, and then cut out others. I too have noticed that sometimes (not all the time) the alert sounds volume and the app sound volume are tied together. They did not used to be, and they should NOT be. After rebooting my phone, it works again, then manages to cut back out. Then for not apparent reason, it will work again. This is horribly embarrassing for Apple to have this many stupid bugs like this in iOS 6 months after it was released. I expected 8.2 to solve the issue, but it did not. I'm very disappointed and and am now considering selling this pile of **** phone for something else. Way too many bugs for me to be able to trust this phone anymore.

This may sound like an odd fix but it did fix ALL of my sound issues with notifications, New emails, new messages, etc. I found this fix on another blog about these issues.

Simply hold the bottom right corner of your phone between two fingers for at least 20 seconds. This will seat the speaker connections properly, if they are not seated properly.

Interestingly I had just had my battery replaced, when this problem started. I don't think that's coincidental.

This method worked perfectly, I also just replaced the battery too after experiencing ios 8 related drains, fixed in 8.3 now.  Thanks.

After the update my iphone 4s, I was no longer receiving text or voicemail alerts. I researched all I could and it still couldn't fix it. I checked Airplane mode, Do Not Disturb, etc..that was all set correctly. I finally stumbled on the notification center and fixed the issue. Go to Settings, Notifications, Messages, make sure 'Allow notifications' is on and make sure 'Badge App Icon' is on. Voila!

Definitely works, but DO NOT DELETE the com.apple.iapd.plist file!  Just add .bak to the file name:  com.apple.iapd.plist.bak
