Oct 21, 2014 12:06 PM in response to cationicby stavvy123,My understanding is that any NFC terminal will work (for example, Apple Pay works on vending machines) - but Apple partnered with specific stores to make sure all registers were equipped with NFC machines, have apps, etc. But it should work anywhere where NFC is used.

Oct 21, 2014 12:08 PM in response to stavvy123by cationic,Well, I don't know where you got that information, but everything I have read so far indicates that only the places on the list accept it now.

Oct 21, 2014 12:19 PM in response to cationicby stavvy123,I guess you're right - that's not verified information. I've seen people post elsewhere that they've been able to use apple pay at random NFC terminals (like soda machines in random locations - i.e. not Target), but I suppose that might not be universal so that could explain it.

Feb 22, 2015 1:18 PM in response to cationicby DThomas,Some companies like Walmart, Rite Aid and CVS Pharmacy have purposefully disabled Apple Pay in preference of adopting their own system or an Apple / Google competitor's system - probably for a kickback, although I do not know that for a fact. Some companies have just not adopted the NFC functionality yet. For those disabling Apple Pay on purpose, it isn't going to endear them to customers, at least not me. I will take my business elsewhere in a New York minute. I suppose every company wants a piece of that future pie, although blocking one in favor of another is just going to slow down adoption for everyone. I find it frustrating because I use my iPhone for almost everything and I desperately want to do away with carrying multiple discount cards, debit cards and credit cards. My wallet is so full of crap that it looks like a leather couch cushion and could probably stop an armor piercing bullet - never mind what keeping it in my back pocket is probably doing to my spine.

Feb 24, 2015 3:59 AM in response to DThomasby WiseJD,ApplePay works very well in most Retail locations listed as accepting ApplePay. Even in these stores, there can be examples where something can go wrong on a specific terminal. There is quite a number of integrated pieces that can lead to ApplePay either working or failing to work. As referenced in other posts, there are many Retailers (with about 120,000 stores) such as CVS for example where they are under Contract with CurrentC an NFC payment process that has been under development by a consortium of Retailers hoping to keep more of the profit that Banks are getting now for Credit and Debit Transactions. CurrentC is expected to be release at some point this year. When I first tried my ApplePay it was at a CVS location which at the time had their NFC capability turned on for other forms of Payment. My transaction worked with no need for software or system changes at CVS. However, the next day CVS Corporate told all their Stores to turn off NFC because they were not to accept ApplePay. Again, this was due to their Contractual obligation not due to any issues with their POS Systems in-place.

There are some places with NFC that will not work with Apple Pay. I know Home Depot is the biggest culprit but there are others as well. Most people trying to use Apple Pay at Home Depot have the same experience you did and they have been informed that their NFC terminals are not equipped to handle Apple Pay. So there clearly has to be something in their system that is blocking it (it may or may not be purposeful). The issue with CVS, Rite Aid, and others isn't that they just won't accept Apple Pay but they completely disabled their NFC.

Nov 20, 2015 6:32 AM in response to stavvy123by LawrenceCooper,I have been using Apple Pay while traveling the last few days, but yesterday after using it in a NYC cab, it has been declined several times forcing me to use the physical card - No problems with those cards, just Apple Pay.
Since then whenever I use Apple Pay, whether in a store that I have used it before or in the NYC cans which all take Apple Pay - I GET DECLINED!

Nov 27, 2015 4:32 PM in response to LawrenceCooperby lkrupp,I had a similar problem with Walgreens declining my Apple Pay transactions. The solution for me was to delete the cards from the Wallet app and then re-enter them which generates a new Device Account Number. Since then things have been back to normal.

Nov 27, 2015 10:11 PM in response to lkruppby LawrenceCooper,That solution worked for me, but the problem has reoccured. I talked with Apple - they think it's a Bank issue. It's not. It's an iOS bug.

Jun 2, 2016 10:47 AM in response to stavvy123by KingThierry,This occurs when your financial institute has not activated your card for apple pay. Your iDevice will process everything as though its done, but the terminal will decline a transaction.
THE FIX :- Call your Financial institute to activate your card for apply
