Q: Help connecting MacBook Air to Printer

I'm trying to connect to friend's printer (HP8600) - software installed on my MacBook Air, but midway into "reading" the doc, I get the message "Printer is not responding." Printer works fine on friend's PC. Suggestions?

Macbook Air, Mac OS X (10.5.4)
