Q: firewire connection for sony dsr-1500p to iMac 1.9 Mavericks

Hi,

First time caller, long time listener . . .

Does anyone know why I can't connect my iMac, (Model 9.1 - OS X Mavericks 9.5) to a Sony DSR-1500p DVcam record deck?

Is it a hardware, firewire connection issue or driver needed?

Have tried FCP and Premier Pro to capture, but neither will recognise the device, or state it is off-line, (and I've tried cycling

through all the capture presets available for DV PAL 48Khz, using both Apple and Sony Firewire protocols).

This used to work with my older G4 machine.

Cheers,

EsFluff.

First look to see if the device is compatible with FCP or iMovie. For FCP, please click and research in Cameras supported by Final Cut Pro X - Apple Support. You can find a similar site for iMovie using Google. Next I would recommend researching how to import video into FCP, you can use FCP's Help for locating that. Finally, going forward you may want to post FCP related questions into the FCP product forums located at:

    Thanks for your quick reply.

I do not think that this is an issue with FCP, it is an issue with connecting the device to the computer, for use by any application, (Apple, Adobe or other), that supports video capture/record, to external hardware.

Also this used to work with FCP 7 on my old G4, and the Sony DSR-1500p is a professional video player/recorder for DVCam tape, not a camera, (and so is not mentioned on the cam support page for FCP X).

What has changed is my machine, (G4 to iMac) and operating system (Tiger to Mavericks), which leads me to think that this is a firewire connection/protocol issue, firewire cable issue, or a driver needed for compatibility with OS X 10.9.5.

I posted here as a start point, Final Cut Pro X does not seem relevant for this, perhaps there is a '3rd party hardware technical' forum that you can point me to.

    Cheers again,
