Feb 26, 2015 12:36 PM in response to tdtruegby OldGnome,Can you tell us more about what you are doing to "convert" you AOL username to an Apple ID?
-
Feb 26, 2015 12:42 PM in response to OldGnomeby tdtrueg,Sure thing. Here are my steps:
1) Login with AOL screen name into iTunes.
2) Pop up appears with the message "You need to change your account to use an Apple ID...". I select "Update Account".
4) "Change to Use an Apple ID" screen appears. I select "Continue".
5) "Edit Apple ID Details" screen appears. I then enter my email and password for a NEW Apple ID. (Note: If I enter in an email of an existing Apple ID, I get an error and cannot pass the screen. If I enter in a truly new email for a new Apple ID, the error disappears). Once info is in, I select "Continue".
6) "Review Your Address" screen appears. I can also update credit card information here. The Security Code is missing by default, so I must enter it in. If I enter in a wrong Security Code, I get an error to "Please enter valid Security Code". Once I enter in the correct info, I select "Continue".
7) Pop up appears with the message "Your request is temporarily unable to be processed. Please try again later."
I have gone through this process a number of times, trying to change things slightly in various screens to see if I get a different result. It appears I simply cannot get past the "Review Your Address" screen.

Feb 26, 2015 12:47 PM in response to tdtruegby OldGnome,Thanks for the detailed response.
It is possible that your address could be recorded slightly differently by your card issuer. Have you looked at a recent statement to be sure you have all of the exact same information in your Apple ID address fields as the bank is expecting?
Is there a "Help" link anywhere on the "Review Your Address" screen?

Feb 26, 2015 12:51 PM in response to OldGnomeby tdtrueg,Tried different cards, no progress. I have confirmed I am entering in all details correctly per the card/account info.
No, there is no help or support button anywhere on the page. I can only Go Back, Cancel, or Continue.

Feb 26, 2015 12:52 PM in response to tdtruegby OldGnome,Can you post the link you are using? I believe there are different links for different geographic areas.
-
Feb 26, 2015 12:53 PM in response to OldGnomeby tdtrueg,There are no links. This is all done directly within iTunes.

Feb 26, 2015 12:59 PM in response to tdtruegby OldGnome,Sorry. I am just getting up to speed with the conversion process. Let's take this back to basic troubleshooting. We might hit on something there --
1. Have you fully closed iTunes at any point in this process?
2. Have you rebooted your computer at any point in this process?
The good news is that you have until the end of March to complete the process. I know we will get this knocked out well before then.

Feb 26, 2015 1:01 PM in response to OldGnomeby tdtrueg,1. Yes
2. Yes
I emailed iTunes Support as well. Sounds like something that may need to be managed on Apple's side.
-
Feb 26, 2015 1:04 PM in response to tdtruegby OldGnome,Well, as far as I can tell, you have done everything possible to make it work, including contacting iTunes Support.
The only other thing I would suggest is to let it rest for 24 hours and try again.

Mar 3, 2015 10:09 AM in response to tdtruegby BGGSteve,I have this problem too. I've tried several times, days apart, on different laptops iTunes. I'm trying to convert to a gmail id - which already exists as a gmail account. I've tried putting in the credit card info & also saying "none" to the credit card info (I don't want to be able to purchase more stuff, as I already have another non-AOL apple id which I've been using for ages - the AOL screen name / apple id is "ancient history" - but I still want to be able to play the stuff I bought back in the day!! It always fails with the same "temporarily unable to perform your request" message, just like you said.
Have you managed to find a way round this impasse?
P.S. APPLE - WHY CAN'T WE TRANSFER THE OLD AOL-PURCHASED STUFF TO MERGE INTO ANOTHER ALREADY-EXISTING NON-AOL APPLE ID TO SAVE THE AGGRO OF CONTINUING WITH MULTIPLE APPLE IDs?
-
Mar 3, 2015 10:20 AM in response to BGGSteveby OldGnome,Please note that Apple only supplies these forums for peer-to-peer use. They do not participate. Try the above task of e-mailing iTunes support to see if that can help solve the problem.
As for merging IDs, that is a decision Apple made. I can see a few technical issues that could exist with allowing IDs to be combined, but it was a decision they made. You could always add each Apple ID you have to your "family."

Mar 3, 2015 11:10 AM in response to BGGSteveby tdtrueg,Ah I figured it out a solution! It turned out that the email I was wanting to use for a new Apple ID was already an ALTERNATE email address on a different Apple ID. So, even though iTunes allowed you to continue since it wasn't an actual Apple ID, it failed after the credit card screen (which turned out to be the last window).
Try to create a new email or verify that you are using an email that isn't listed anywhere on any Apple ID account. Good luck!

Mar 3, 2015 11:15 AM in response to tdtruegby OldGnome, tdtrueg - that's great news! I'm glad you found the solution.
BGGSteve - does that help you isolate your problem?
-
Mar 4, 2015 6:41 AM in response to tdtruegby BGGSteve,That was right on the money! The gmail I was trying to convert to was an alternate email on my current (non-AOL) Apple id, so I set up a brand new gmail to use and all is now AOK.
Much thanks for your help.
