Mar 3, 2015 5:34 PM in response to Orgoneyesby Orgoneyes,aSo after making many phone calls we can find no-one tonight who has iTunes and is at home. It really would appear that Mac have made an enormous mistake by assuming that iTunes is ubiquitous.
At the moment we have a useless 10 inch paperweight which cost $3000. It used to be called an iPad. I am wondering what the current world record is for smashing a useless paperweight into the most amount of pieces?
I recall now why I left Mac..... Using 'Time machine' I (still have) stored some 600Gb of data from 2 Macbooks (circa 2007) before both Macbooks ceased to function for no apparent reason.
Time Machine - being soooo awesome and secure (lol) locked us out of all of OUR files whilst trying to access from other Macbooks. A painful amount of work and personal memories swallowed by Apple.
Saying goodbye Mac became very easy.
So here we are with this story, 2 weeks in and no solution to a locked iPad. With no solution in sight!!!!! Why do NONE of the Mac options listed on the help pages suit this situation? A forgotten wireless keyboard in a satchel with an iPad and --- Game over.
I now have my wife asking about the various Linux platforms instead of Mac
Hey.... At least somewhere on this planet there is progress!

Just to add, my wife neither knowingly, nor willingly set the option in question. She is 100% computer-techless. She never touches anything other than the camera, notes and internet...... Ever!
Please don't jump to conclusions.
Someone set it.

No. They assumed that anyone that needs it has access to the Internet and would download it for free.

Mar 3, 2015 8:47 PM in response to Philly_Phanby Orgoneyes,If you are not here to be 'supportive', then why waste everyones times with miserable input on the Mac 'Support' forum?
When there is a problem which needs sorting out, it doesn't help anyone by making snide comments regarding peoples lack of Mac OS knowledge.
We still have a device locked, which iTunes does not open.
So now what?

Mar 3, 2015 8:52 PM in response to Philly_Phanby Orgoneyes,Well they clearly assumed wrongly.
Nobody I have spoken to over here uses, nor ever intends to use iTunes.
Nobody is aware that iTunes is essential to iPad/iPhone recovery.
By a very long way, not everyone has access to the internet in Brazil. For example, we need it, right now, but have neither a functioning Mac nor use Windows.
So again..... Now what?
That is what is known as a product flaw.

Perhaps if Mac released iTunes for Linux then we would not be stuck in limbo, however when it becomes possible to find it, we're gonna try one more time on iTunes, but at least have the Apple shop nearby. Even if it will be annoying to pay Mac hard earned money to erase all of the device's data, in no small part due to a failure in the devices which they sell to an unwitting public.
At least we can transparently see why Apples profits are at an all time high - even if their fan base isn't.
Would be interesting to know what someone would do if they lived 1000 miles from an Apple shop?
Hang on... Actually I already know, the Brazilian version of eBay and other sites have no shortage of locked iPads and iPhones for sale.
Is it possible to suggest that Apple figure out a more user friendly way around this obviously common before they lose more followers?
I know all this has nothing to do with you, but I would like to thank you for your time.

Mar 4, 2015 5:05 AM in response to Orgoneyesby King_Penguin,Due to the small market share of Linux it's unlikely to happen, but you can try leaving feedback : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
A search implies that you might be able to use iTunes on Linux via emulation software - WINE is mentioned, though it's not officially supported and I don't know if it gives full functionality.
The majority of people who have iOS devices will have a PC or Mac computer so that they can copy their own music and backup their purchases and content.
The locked devices on eBay are likely to be found or stolen devices.
