Q: Change Childs Date of Birth setup in Family Sharing

Hi

I just setup my 2 girls some iCloud accounts using the Family Sharing feature on the Mac.

I put one of their birthdays in wrong and now i find i can't change it anywhere.

If i log in as them the birthday option is greyed out, which i understand as you don't want your child altering there birthdate to make them older. But i figure i should at least be able to alter it from my account? i was the one who set them up.

I set them up on the mac and there is nowhere that says once entered it cannot be changed. But i have been searching of ways to do this and it does say you cannot change a date of birth if you do it from an IOS device. Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids - Apple Support

the only way round it seems to be to create a new account. But i just manage to get there proper names as email addresses so i don't want to lose those.

Does anyone know if this is possible. Change a Childs date of birth that was setup in Family Sharing

Thanks

    Hi pbick,

After you create an Apple ID for someone under 18 years of age, the birthdate can not be changed. The article you mention -

Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids - Apple Support

The birthday for a child's account can't be changed after the account is created. Be sure to enter the correct date.

While it says this under the section about iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 8, the same is mentioned under creating the child's Apple ID on a Mac with OS X Yosemite.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Sincerely,

    Hi

Thanks for responding...But i just double checked and no it doesn't say anything about not being able to change a data of birth when creating on Yosemite. It says you cannot change the email address but thats all. Nothing about the date of birth...See screenshots below

Its in the support document but is not mentioned when actually creating the account...not so good !

    Thanks

    Greetings pbick,

I am sorry I did not make myself better understood. The article itself states that.

    Mac with OS X Yosemite

    1. Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family and click the Add button (+).
    2. Select "Create an Apple ID for a child who doesn't have an account" and click Continue.
    3. Enter your child's birthday and click Next. The birthday for a child's account can't be changed after the account is created. Be sure to enter the correct date.

For security reasons, I would never type an accurate birth date for anyone into the Internet.  With a birthdate and a federal ID number, (formally known as a social security number), identity can be stolen. Please use caution.

    Hey there pbick,

If a child’s birthday on their Apple ID account had previously been entered incorrectly when setting up Family Sharing, you can now change that birthdate by following the information in the article below.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

    Cheers,

Thanks Alex H but that still doesn't work.

If you setup a family sharing child account incorrectly at the start(like i did) you cannot go back and change it.

Its this bit at the bottom that is the issue. Too bad this isn't mentioned when you actually set up the account !!

Be sure to enter your correct birthdate. After you change it to any age below 13, you will no longer be able to edit it. Learn more about Apple IDs for children.

And if you were creating an account for a child for use by something like Family Sharing, you would be committing a federal crime by falsifying the information.
