Q: My iPhone 6 launches apps by itself!

My new iPhone 6 launches application by itself! Have also had it highlight text within the Note app (that IT opened, not me!) and search the Internet for garbled text. It is either possessed or someone is playing a cruel joke on me!  Anyone else experiencing this issue??

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1

    Hi UserH,

If you are having issues with your iPhone's applications launching on their own at inappropriate times, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.

First, quit all running applications and test again -

iOS: Force an app to close

Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -

Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -

iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Best,

I might have a stupid answer, but have you tried cleaning the screen? Since it is a touch device, if there is a substance on the screen that's conductive it may cause spurious signals that the device interprets as a tap. For example, if there are drops of water on a MacBook trackpad the pointer can jump around randomly; it can seem like someone else is controlling the computer.

I'm having the same issue with my iphone 6 and it's not the screen protector or the case. I've removed both and the while the phone is setting on my desk it will begin to launch apps on it's own.

    iOS 8.1.2

Mine started doing the same thing.  I thought I was going crazy.  No screen protector, no case, and the screen is clean.

I am having the same problem with my iPhone 6.  Does it randomly.  Also while I am  in some apps it is choosing things (links, photos, etc) on its own

This is likely actually an issue with the touch screen. If the touch screen is damaged or malfunctioning it may register touches even when you are not touching it. You will most likely need to take the device into apple for service if restoring the phone does not resolve this.

Seems to me that this issue is occurring due to defective devices.  My device is new (less than a month) and has not been damaged in anyway.  Plus there have been more than a few posts about this issue ever since the 6 was released.

I have done all of these suggestions and none of them fixed the problem.  The latest event, during the night (last night), the Mag Lite app turned on all by it self.  No one touched it or turned it on everyone was asleep.  My phone seems to be possessed at times, almost like someone else has taken control of it.

I certainly would like for Apple to address this issue for everyone and get this problem resolved for everyone.  I purchased my phone in October brand new and It has not been damaged. I keep it in a case with a screen protector.  As I understand it, I now need my phone diagnosed by Apple techs, sent in and "repaired".

I am in the same exact situation as user: KSW4.  I've tried everything with no results.

My wife and I both are having the same issues with both our phones! We have updated the iOS restarted, reset. Their is something seriously wrong with either the iOS or this hardware. This phone has disgraced APPLES reputation as being solid glitcheless phones.

This phone reminds me of the Windows Mobile phone with all it glitches.

I Put down a lot on notes in my contacts, I absolutely hate that you search for information but when you tap to type it jumps you all the way back to the top of your list. This phone bogs down and locks up. takes off on it's own and does what it wants.

Programming needs serious help. I pay a premium for these phone because I expect a solid phone.

What is Apple going to do to fix this. These issues are not isolated.

My iPhone is less then a week old and this issue had been brought up to me. However i had thought to myself, how come this problem had started now. I started to think about the changes that i had done to the phone before this issue occurred. I checked my case's screen protector and cleaned my screen, nothing was different. Then i had realized earlier in the day my friend had gave me his charging block since i had lost mine on a trip. I took the charger out of my phone and it went back to normal. I don't have a good rationale as to why this issue occurs when i specifically put his charger into my phone, however i came to the conclusion that if you are facing this problem one of the issues might be the fact that you have an unsafe accessory plugged into the device. I hope that this is the issue because it can be easily resolved. This was my experience with this "glitch" and hope that my response helps anyone facing this issue as well.

Here is my latest update on this ongoing, persistent problem with my iPhone 6.   I purchased an Otterbox (I believe) Defender with Bodyguardz screen protector for my new iPhone. The salesman at our carrier installed these items on my new iPhone.  It has been indicated to me (by a 3rd party company that is in partnership with Apple) that the screen protector is not meant to work with the Otterbox because it is too thick (the original screen protector that comes in the Otterbox was taken out by our carrier salesman).  It also appears that the screen protector was not installed on my phone correctly -- slightly off center.  These 2 issues together possibly could be the problem with my phone acting like there is a "poltergeist" running it.  My phone was absolutely going crazy again last night.

I now get to go back to our carrier and see if they will replace the destroyed Otterbox (by their salesman).  If that doesn't work, I go back to the 3rd party technicians (Apple approved) and possibly will get it sent in for repair or replacement.

I have learned 2 very valuable lessons thus far in this ongoing problem.  #1 Always, Always, Always buy Apple Care.  (We were told we did not need to purchase Apple Care coverage when I bought my new phone by our carrier -- they could save us money.)  #2 Don't let them destroy one product so that it can be used with another product.

Also I am using the chargers that came with my iPhone 6 when I purchased it.

My phone began using apps on it's own while laying on my table. Unlike you, I was charging using the charging cable provided by Apple with my brand new iPhone 6. I could not make the phone stop opening apps by itself and clicking on items without touching the screen. Taking your advice I disconnected the charging cable and the ghost behavior stopped immediately!  Bad charging cable? Broken phone charging port? Something is wrong.

Same problem here. I have done all the above mentioned reset, restart, restore. On top of the phone controlling itself, I have this white fuzz. (like old TV fuzz) coming down from the top of my screen. I have had 3 new IPHONE 6 pluses and I go to the Apple Store again this Sunday. Ridiculous...
