Q: iPhone calling from Mac not working

iPhone continuity calling works from my iPad but not my Mac.  Yosemite 10.10.  iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1  Using same Apple ID, everything turned on in FaceTime and iPhone per instructions.  Both on the same Wi-Fi network

Get this message: IPHONE NOT AVAILABLE,  your iPhone and Mac must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

They are on the same network.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

It was my firewall settings. They were too secure.. Advanced Settings. When I unchecked that everything went back to normal

Thank You GrumpyPants! I rarely find solutions in here these days. This has been a nice surprise. Unchecking "Block all incoming connections" fixed it.

I just had to turn FaceTime off on my iPhone 5s running iOS 8.1.3, then I turned it back on and my MacBook Air running Yosemite associated my phone number with my iCloud account and now it works.

Hi....I found the solution to this on my MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite and now everything is working perfectly and reliably.

In the days after installing Yosemite on my MacBook, and before I even went to set up Continuity features and iPhone dialing from the Mac, I received a few pop-ups asking me to allow incoming connections for several system services.  I was not doing anything that would have caused these pop-ups to show up at that time so I denied incoming connections for all of them because I didn't know what they were for.

Fast forward a few weeks and I was trying to set up Screen Sharing so that I could help my father with his Mac remotely, and we could not get it to work for the life of me.  Kept getting connection errors, which eventually led me to the thought that all of those services I denied access to in the Mac firewall a few weeks earlier might be needed for Screen Sharing in the Messages app.

So I went into the Mac firewall and Allowed incoming connection on the following services:

Screen Sharing (enabled in Sharing in System Preferences)

    awacsd

    coreaudiod

    FaceTime.app

    identityservicesd.app

    kdc

    launchd

    Messages.app

    NETserver.app

    sharingd

Not only did this get Screen Sharing working, but the iPhone calls from the Mac started working too.  And it has stayed working since.  Some of these are clearly related to the Screen Sharing feature so I can't identify which ones specifically got the iPhone/Mac calling working....but one or more of them certainly did because it only worked after I did this.

I did not change any setting on my modem or router.

I hope this helps someone out there because iPhone/Mac calling is pretty convenient....

    Similar problem here:

My MacBook Pro mid-2010 running 10.10.2 has been able to receive phone calls via Continuity and my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1.3. Today, for the first time, I tried to make an outgoing call from my computer, but wasn't able to.

I verified that both devices met the system requirements for outgoing phone calls. I then walked through each of Apple's troubleshooting steps, verifying that, yes, all my settings were correct. The last bullet says to log out and back in to iCloud, so I did. Upon logging back in, however, FaceTime no longer shows the option to  turn on iPhone Cellular Calls—that option has totally disappeared from FaceTime > Preferences. And now, not only can I not making outgoing calls from my MacBook Pro, but I can't accept incoming ones either. I rebooted, but that didn't help.

After John Galt referred me to this thread, I

    • restarted my router
    • disabled the firewall
    • got Client ID on the iPhone's WiFi to match what appeared on my Mac in System Preferences > Network > Status.
    • set Caller ID on the phone to my phone number, as is Start New Calls on my iPhone (I've tried it with both set to email too)

    Alas, nothing worked.

Do you know if on the iPhone Settings > FaceTime should have an option for cellular calling? If so, it's disappeared on me too. Thanks again!

Any idea how I can get this function working? Thanks!

Had the same issue. Restarted Mac, iPhone and Apple airport extreme router and that seemed to have fixed the problem.

I see.  So, you are running iOS 8 on your phone and Yosemite on your Mac right?

    On the Mac:

    1. Open up the FaceTime app, which is located in the Applications folder (or it could already be located in your dock).
    2. Click on FaceTime in the menu bar in the upper-left corner of the screen.
    3. Click on Preferences.
    4. Place a checkmark next to iPhone Cellular Calls.

    On the phone:

    1. Open up the Settings app.
    2. Tap on FaceTime.
    3. Find iPhone Cellular Calls and turn the toggle switch On

Glad that worked for you. I didn't for me. Where did you turn off your iCloud account (computer, iPhone, settings for the entire computer/phone, settings for just FaceTime)? Thanks.
