Q: Mac Air is unable to send email.

Recent issue. I can receive emails but not send them. I have spoken to my email provider- I can send via webmail. Settings on Mac appear to be correct. Connections are working. The error message on trying to send email says: Server Response: Authentication Required (TT401).

I would be grateful for any suggestions as to how to get it working again. Thanks.

There's a sequence of steps in the support article for each of several possible scenarios of a connection failure in Mail. Please describe in detail what happened when you followed the applicable sequence all the way to the very end, without skipping any of the steps. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem.

Unfortunately none of the suggestions in the support article have solved the issue. I have just spent 2 hours talking to an Apple advisor who is also unable to solve the problem! Back to my email provider I think, although I don't hold out much hope there!
