Q: Looking for a jpeg printer

I know there is a built in PDF printer and Adobe Acrobat also can be a PDF printer...but I can't seem to find a JPEG printer.  Do they exist?  I have Yosemite.  Really would cut down a lot of time to me to just print it as a image, instead of PDF first then image.

JPEG is a file type. There's no benefit to "converting" a document/website/whatever into JPEG and then printing it. Can you explain what it is you're trying to print, and why the built-in "Print" doesn't do it for you?

You can open the jpeg image file in Preview and print it from there.  As Matt mentioned there's no need to convert.  Printers can print pdfs, jpegs, tiffs, and many other types of files depending on the application you're using.

If you're using iPhoto you can print from it and specify of of many standard print sizes.

Give us more into on where these image files are coming from, how you're viewing them on the Mac and what you want to achieve with printing.

The printing system in OS X will always create a PDF of a document to be printed before passing it to the respective printer driver where it will be converted to the supported file type. So if you have a printer that only supports an image format, which is most ink jet printers, then you are always going to have a PDF to file format conversion (which is raster for most inkjets). So if you believe this conversion process impacts the operation of your Mac then you should get a printer that supports Postscript, as there will minimal conversion from the system created PDF to Postscript output.

Well thanks everyone, but I do need to convert it to jpeg, because I have to put the jpeg in a work folder so it shows on on our tv displays throughout our building and other offices.  My IT department has set it up to only work with jpegs and I'd like to skip a step.  Obviously there is no way to do that.  Too bad...it would be nice.  I have Acrobat Pro XI and it will convert my pdf's to jpegs...but I still have to open it to do it.  It would be really nice if I didn't.  Oh well, life goes on, and its just one more thing that takes time.  Yes, preview does it too, but again.  I have to do extra steps.  I wish I was a programer, but I'm not so therefore I can't write the code to make this happen.

Seems like your IT dept is rather lame. Graphic Converter will at least batch convert PDFs to JPEGs, but it too has to be open. Or try this; it's a service so at least you could use control-click after creating PDFs: http://www.informationweek.com/how-to-add--convert-to-jpg--to-macs-context-menu/ d/d-id/1098554?

There are also automator workflows that will receive print to PDF output. But since it's pretty rare for anyone to want to go this route you'd probably have to create it yourself. Or have those brilliant IT guys do it.

What I did is this to export to JPEG from the print dialog:

Using Automator and making new Print Plugin put these two actions and I now have an action using the PDF dropdown on the print dialog to Export to JPEG

Note that I checked the "Show this action" checkbox because I want to change the resolution sometimes, if you don't want put the resolution and don't check the option
