Q: both superdrive not writing DVD's

i own a Mac Pro (early 2008) with 2 superdrives originally assembled by Apple.

The system is running OSX Yosemite 10.10.2

I do not write often DVD's nor CD's but i realize recenttly that it doesn't burn and DVD anymore. It seems strange that the problem is on BOTH the superdrive so i think that must be a software problem. Is it possible? Nobody experienced with such a problem?
Any possible solution will be appreciated.

thanks

It's why commercial DVDs are pressed not burned.

Generally true, however I buy movies directly from studios that are burned all the time.  In fact, they have even stopped copy protecting because they realize it's a waste of time.

The reason commercial DVDs are pressed (i.e. replicated) versus burned (i.e. duplicated) is because the process is 1000 times faster and nearly 100% flawless compared to burned media.  Copy-protection is just a feature, it can be done on both pressed and burned media as well as digital media.

Any DVD media which is burned has a higher potential of errors and incompatibility than compared to pressed media.  You may never have an issue burning DVDs and playing them back.  Then again, you may have nothing but problems with it.

All in all, DVD media is on the way out.  Digital data is already becoming the de-facto form of delivering all media.  So in a few years, this issue will be moot.
