It sounds like you're not able to view videos using Home Sharing from your MacBook after updating to iOS 8. It can definitely be frustrating when issues occur after an update.

After these, one additional step to try is resetting network settings on your iPhone:
Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.
