Q: Camera won't focus after 8.1.3 update

I updated my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 8.1.3 today and now the rear camera is permanently focused very close to the phone. I can't change the focus using auto focus, tapping the screen, or manually changing the focal length in Camera+.

Hello Everyone, I took my phone back to the Apple Store. The tech told me that Apple knew about this problem with the iPhone 6 Plus almost from the onset and pre-shipped new cameras to be installed when phones are brought in for this repair. It has something to do with the camera stability function on the 6 Plus. Works perfectly now. But don't let them go through their "routine" of trying a hard reset first. Not unless you want to lose all your text messages (fortunately, I had everything else backed up). Just my 2-cents :-). Free under warranty. $59 if not.

I am facing the same problem. Camera is not able to auto-focus itself. Please suggest what to do ASAP.

I took my 6 plus into an Apple Store and was told that it was a fairly common issue at the moment. The Genius Bar tech replaced my phone on the spot and said he was going to send my phone to Apple engineering for analysis.

I hope the Apple Store will do the same for me. I just booked an appointment with them about this same problem. How annoying!

I literally been having the same problems with my rear camera not focusing. The exact same problems as everyone else it seems. My phone is working perfectly fine but this seems to be a bug issue. One in which the most recent update did not help. I've tried every step to fix this problem but it hasn't been successful. I JUST bought this phone in January and it works perfectly other than this annoying camera problem. When is Apple going to offer a real solution to this problem. We spend way too much money on these phones for them to mess up like this. I bought this phone because of the iSight camera and now I can't even use it. If I wanted to use the front faced camera I would have stayed with android. THEY NEED TO FIX THIS! Somebody help?

Yeah the update just blacked out my 5s camera completely. I don't even get an out of focus screen. I'm only here to add that I just updated to 8.2 and nothing has changed. Still a black screen when I go to the camera. The FaceTime camera works after some time but that's not what I need.

any suggestions? A reset doesn't change the firmware, should I try it anyway?

    cheers

I don't use my camera very much and just realised I have the same problem. Took my 6 plus to Apple today and they refused to service the device due to wear and tear. This is ridiculous because it is obviously a problem with their software! Not happy!

I too have this issue, IOS 8.13 , cam worked fine since December. 3 days ago the camera wont focus beyond 2 feet. I use this constantly to document work related and timebase oriented situations. I am disappointed.

Any update on this yet?  I use the camera quite a bit for work, and of course taking pictures of my children.  For being the top of the line iPhone I am very unhappy.  This needs fixed ASAP.

I updated to version 8.2 on my iPhone 6 plus and the same thing happened to me. I am on vacation and my rear camera won't focus on anything more than 1 foot away. The selfie camera works great. My wife did the update on her iPhone 5c and she has no issues. This problem may be unique to the iPhone 6 plus. I hope Apple comes up with a update to fix this soon.

I am having the same issue. Recently updated to 8.2 and cannot take pictures of anything. I am a very unhappy of customer right now. We all paid a lot of money for these phones, they should work properly. Can we atleast get a response from Apple on this? Not for nothing, the reason I continue to buy Apple products is for their functionality. These widespread issues diminish that quality everyday.

Exact same problem here with my 6plus. It just stopped working after the update. Face camera works fine, it is just the rear cam. it is focussed on objects about 1 to two feet away.
