What is the best thing to do when my computer locks up, and I get a spinning beach ball that won't stop. I am running Yosemite.

Mac mini, iOS 8.1.2

- Try force closing the app
Force an app to close on your Mac - Apple Support
- Repair the disk via Disk Utilities
- If not successful the push and hold the Power button to turn the computer off. Then restart and open the Console app in Finder>Applications>Utilities and look for suspicious log entries associated with that app at the time of the problem.

I am new to MAC, and I did not understand a thing in the console. I couldn't force quit because everything was unresponsive. It did not even want to turn off with the power button, so I unplugged it. I will try the Disk Utilities now.

The Disk Utilities said that the Hard Drive was OK.

Start in Safe mode
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
and then in normal mode
Then run this and post the results here:
