Q: Adwaremedic is it safe ?

Hello everyone .. I would like to ask if the adwaremedic program is the safest way to remove adware from the mac. Lately I m having some pop up advertisements from a specific site called mac keeper. I have no idea how this ad came up since I am not downloading torrents nor visiting any suspicious site .

So is this the only way to permanently remove the adware? Is it safe , since this is a third party program? Thanks in advance everyone

I have run Adware Medic, it didn't find anything, got another pop-up today.  It pops up in the background in it's own window so I only notice it once I start closing out the Safari window.  I try not to visit any trashy sites.  Mostly just sites I know, Facebook, YouTube, Netflix.  I've checked and have no browser extensions showing in the extension list and pop-up blocker checked in the Safari security settings.

Some internet sites are hacked by Mackeeper guys, some are just wrong. You go to the wrong sites on the internet.

    Use DuckDuckGo browser.

Now that I think of it, I only get the pop-up after I've visited a non-mainstream media website from Facebook.  Non-mainstream media is heavily sponsored through advertisement.  Would you think that these news outlets could be the culprit and it's not an adware infection?

DuckDuckGo has a browser?  Or do you mean to use the search engine as default over Google?

No, but install it in Safari and let it do all searching and do not uncheck any function it has and you have a DDG browser.

I realise that a DDG browsing experience may be a bit too much of all the good .

Thanks Lex, I set it as default.  Made a few searches.  I'm loving that it brings up only relevant websites to the search criteria! lol

You have a pretty clean system. There's no adware there. Your problem is caused by something else. See:

(Fair disclosure: I may receive compensation from links to my sites, TheSafeMac.com and AdwareMedic.com.)

Your problem, whatever it is, is not related to the one that was being discussed here. The right way to get help on this site is not to post a comment in a discussion started by someone else months ago. Nor should you post a diagnostic test that no one asked for, without a description of the problem. That particular test should never be used unless requested by me.

Search the site for answered questions similar to yours, and if you don't find a solution that way, start your own discussion with a full description of the problem and whatever you've already done to try to solve it. You'll have as much chance as anyone else of getting a useful response.

No one has the right to instruct posters not to use a test unless asked for by Mr. Davis.

    That is ridiculous.

And AdwareMedic is a great tool, developed by Thomas R. Reed.

I should add that the reason why you should not run that test (which, of course, I wrote myself, for my own use) unless I ask for it is that you may get comments from people who don't know what it does or what to do with the results. No one has the right to instruct posters to ignore what I say about my own test.

OK, I did run that test because ,I thought ,from reading the thread, I have similar problem.I had a 1 week old macbook air and did opened a link from FB posted by a friend and kept getting pop-ups and a messages from my mac about being infected by adware/malware and have to call this number urgently .(I have tried adawremedic before in a similar problem and the adware seems to overcome it,have to take it to apple store and the supervisor, chief tech spend 1 hour to remove that,in a different laptop ).

Did not open a knew post because of time factor(heading in few hours overseas where I have no access to apple stuff( a country in africa that is sanctioned by US and have to use VPN to access apple store/I tunes, etc), beside I felt If I have the same issues why duplicating posts.

I did not knew that the  test is a personal property,is it?.I thought this a common form where common people can get help and share knowledge.

Anyway, I I have few hours left and will try adwaremedic now or through VPN.
