Mar 11, 2015 10:14 AM in response to allapplesbabyby Loner T,From Boot Camp 5.1: Frequently asked questions - Apple Support
Which versions of Windows work with Boot Camp 5.1?
Boot Camp 5.1 supports 64-bit, non-Enterprise versions of Windows 7, Windows 8.0, and Windows 8.1. This version of Boot Camp doesn't support Windows XP, Windows Vista, or any 32-bit version of Windows. Depending on your Mac, you may be able to use an earlier version of Boot Camp to work with other versions of Windows. For details, see the Boot Camp system requirements for Microsoft Windows.

Mar 11, 2015 11:03 AM in response to Loner Tby allapplesbaby,I am using Yosemite and degrading to a older version of bootcamp will work but will try but cannot find the older versions of bootcamp I do have a 32bit dvd version of windows 8.1 but not sure if it would work in the older versions of boot camp. I cannot find a copy of windows seven 32 bit without giving Microsoft more money or the apple store since they sold me the dvd 7 windows pro and said it would work find and knowing my configurations but clearly it will not in 64bit. Do u know if down grading the boot camp in Yosemite will it work and if so where can I down load older versions. thank you for your help u have been very clear on all levels and this should be my last question.

Ask as many questions as you want. The more you ask, the better informed you are.

Mar 11, 2015 12:45 PM in response to allapplesbabyby Loner T,You have an option.
1. Install an older version of OSX which supports the Bootcamp version you need to install your Windows version on an external disk using OS X: Installing OS X on an external volume - Apple Support. Let us say it is Mountain Lion.
2. Boot from the external disk with ML. You need to ensure that the Yosemite disk layout will be understood by ML. For example, CoreStorage volumes are not supported on all versions of OSX.
3. Once you have ML and Yosemite working well together, use the ML BCA to partition and install the Windows version you want and install appropriate drivers.
4. Test with ML and then test with Yosemite.
5. Be aware that you may run into issues because you are using external storage, that BCA may not like.

Mar 11, 2015 1:13 PM in response to Loner Tby allapplesbaby,That is a great idea i am sure it would work. But adding more hardware to just meet this need would defeat the purpose of why I own a i mac to eliminate the extra wires and hardware. But I would hope apple would come out with a proper fix to this everyone invests into there products for a good reason but sometimes there is no fix for new technology.
