Q: Suddenly can't get new Yahoo! mail on my mac.

I can get gmail, and can get Yahoo! mail using other my other apple devices (through same internet service). Also able to log into webmail with no issues. Didn't change any settings since yesterday (the last time I was able to receive new Yahoo! mail on my mac). Seems like a problem specific to the mac itself, since it's not an issue with the internet, server, or account credentials.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

I am having this same issue (not to sound like a broken record).  I just found this discussion from a search online.   I noticed this issue about 2 or 3 days ago.  I was getting email from all of my accounts, except for Yahoo.   It started working again about 2 hours later, so I assumed it was my imagination. Then, it went down again today.  I checked by sending an email to myself, and I am able to send with no problem.  Also, I checked on my iPhone, and that seems to be working fine (all new messages and my test message were in my inbox).   I also notice that when I try to manually check the mail, "yahoo" is greyed out as if all mail has already been received.

I know there was one opinion in this chain of communication that indicated getting a specific email address for yahoo mail, deleting..., etc.   I know that can't be accurate, since I all of us are receiving the email on our other Apple devices.  Clearly there is a problem the interaction between the Mail program and the Yahoo Servers; however, it doesn't appear that anyone from Apple has acknowledged that this problem is happening.

Hopefully, I won't get an angry response from the user who indicated we are "griping and moaning."  How would Apple ever know we were having issues, if we didn't post them somewhere.  I would think that data would be helpful to them for identifying with problems were isolated incidents and which ones were systemic.   Also, it is very helpful to those of us out here who are wondering is this experience is happening to others.  I found most of these posts very helpful in (at least) validating the problem was outside of my control and preventing me from wasting too much time trying to fix a problem that was not mine to fix.

I guess, in the meantime, I will check my email on my phone, until things start to work again in the Mail program.   Regardless, thank you to everyone who posted here.  It was very helpful to know that this issue isn't just isolated to my computer.

Don't entirely give up on fixing it yourself, but if your mail settings are all correct, then I don't know what else we can do besides wait for an update.

Just as a reminder, or perhaps new information for some: After IOS 8 updates, same problem occurred for many people on their iPad 2 and on some phones. People bent over backward to try and find fix, and shared with others. Unfortunately, the solution was to simply wait until yours was a chosen account, and Apple and Yahoo managed to get their stuff together. There was no magic date upon which all folks had their email back...different for all. Wish I had better news. My Mail won't even open on my MacBook.

I agree, greenmind.  I just checked, and I haven't had any incoming mail from Yahoo since 11:29 am today, and I know I have received at least 25 email messages on that account.  I have 4 email accounts, and the other 3 are working fine.    I feel bad for you, linda.  I wonder if you may have something else going on as well - or perhaps I should brace myself for the same thing to happen to mine, soon!  ;-)

Just switch to an application that you know works!!  That's what I finally did after dealing with this problem on and off for months.  I just checked Mail and it happens to be working again, but who knows why??????

I loaded a trial version of Postbox and it has been working great.  Notifications work and it has some cool features such as integration with Evernote, Dropbox and LinkedIn

IIf you will either buy Apple Care annually, or buy a one incident ticket with Apple Support for around $25, the Apple Techs will guide you patiently through correctly setting up your Mac.

OR you can read the previous posts in this thread to fix your situation.

OR you might prefer to gripe and moan and blame others for your own inept computer use. If you don't want to understand a computer, just watch tv. You just turn a tv on and watch. Period.

What an obnoxious response .... very helpful ... you must work in IT support.

I will check that out, savidon.  Thanks!

I did get mine to work again by adding a duplicate account using the POP server.   The only downside was that I got all of the email I have received since 2011 when I stopped using that server.    When the downloaded mail reached the the time when the other mail stopped, the IMAP server started working again and downloaded the same mail as the POP server for that period of time.  I have no idea if it was something I did or just a coincidence.  Regardless, as savidon said, who knows how long that will last.  I'm going to check out some other options, starting with Postbox.    I just need something that works consistently.

Loved your additional comments, by the way!

    ckntim,

If you find time I would appreciate hearing your thoughts after you check out Postbox; I'm also looking in to it. Thanks

I’ve been having this same issue sporadically for months, it seems. Can get Yahoo mail on mobile devices, but only sometimes on the computer. I tried blackxacto’s advice re: getting a password specific to Apple Mail generated by Yahoo. That appears to be the solution! At least it works for the moment. Hopefully it will stick. It’s very annoying not to be able to send/reply to emails from your computer. It would have been helpful if Yahoo had notified people of this change.

I believe you need an app specific password only if you've enabled two-factor authentication on your yahoo account; otherwise, you can just use the same yahoo password for mail as you usually do going through the web app.

No one using Apple Mail App, can use Yahoo Mail without having Yahoo generate an APP SPECIFIC PASSWORD for Apple Mail. Yahoo forces everyone to generate this password to use in Apple Mail. It is Yahoo's rule if you are going to use Apple Mail.

if you do not use Apple Mail, then forget all this.

This is maddening....and while my problem echoes many of yours now, there are many times I can't use GMAIL as well as Yahoo on Apple Mail.

Usually, the problem corrects itself in a few days.

But I have been unable to receive Yahoo mail for a week.

Usually, when the system does this, I can receive, but not send - this is my first foray into being unable to receive Yahoo mail.

I tried every "correction" on the internet, deleted and restored the Yahoo email accounts, and still....no mail comes in.

I feel like I am wasting my time posting here since most of us said nothing fixes it...but thought I would throw my $0.02 in - so you know you are not alone

(Works perfectly on the iPad and iPhone 6 - even when hooked up to the same Wifi I use for my desktop Mac...I was going to update the

desktop unit....but this is so frustrating...I am going to wait and see if I will stay with Apple...I have a PC laptop, and this never happens with that unit).
