Q: Making of bootable USB disk does not work on version 10.10.2

The making of USB flash disk using the terminal command

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app

seems to be broken with version 10.10.2.

The command runs fine, but when running the installer booting from the USB flash disk is causing a sign like "no access" to appear after a while - not getting to the installation app at all.

Running the app on the USB flash disk when booted from the mac itself, the same thing appears after the some minutes when the Mac tries to restart.

Have tried the installer flash disk on 3 different computers - all without success.

Could the Flash disk be corrupt?

Did you partition the flash drive GUID and Format it using Mac OS Extended, Journaled before you installed the installer? Did you name your flash drive "MyVolume"?

Make your own Yosemite flash drive installer using the Yosemite tool:

You can create a Yosemite flash drive installer via the Terminal. Yosemite has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:

You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy and paste the following command line in its entirety into the Terminal window.

    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite\ Developer\ Preview.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite\ Developer\ Preview.app --nointeraction

Press RETURN, enter admin password (will not echo to the window) then press RETURN again.

You need to have the installer in your Applications folder or change the paths in the above command line.

The making of the USB installer flash disk went OK.

The USB flash disk starts to boot.

After some minutes it shows a stop sign.

The same flash disk was used as Yosemite installer 10.10.1 and worked fine.

Does this computer meet the requirements to install Yosemite? Have you tried using another USB port?

I have tried the installer on one MacBook Pro with Mavericks installed. After several unsuccessful attempts I also tried the installer on two other MacBooks with Yosemite allready installed. Same result all over.

Get another flash drive, then. I've done this many dozens of times and have never had an issue.

Kappy: I have an iMac that came with a 3TB Fusion Drive, it crashed.  It is running Yosemite 10.10.2

I have created a USB drive, it has 16.2GB on it. I made the name of the USB drive Untitled and tried it in Applications folder and in Applications/Install, I also tried "osxupd10.10.2.dmg"  and OSXUpd10.10.2.pkg.

I always get the same results:

    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite\ Developer\ Preview.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite\ Developer\ Preview.app --nointeraction

    Password:

sudo: /Applications/Install OS X Yosemite Developer Preview.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia: command not found

    I enter the correct password.

What am I doing wrong, I am new to terminal
