Q: Viewing Faces from iPhoto in Contacts

I'm trying to add some faces to a couples of cards in Contacts using photos from my iPhoto library. For some reason the two apps don't seem to be 'talking' to one another despite my having attempted to repair the iPhoto database multiple times. Even went as far as rebuilding the iPhoto database two times. I'm all out of ideas. Any help will be greatly appreciated.Screenshot_3_11_15__6_22_PM.png

The two apps are talking to each other, but in a very restrictive way.  See this discussion:

Re: How to change the face name of a batch of photos?

You can only use faces pictures in your Contacts, if you named the faces on your Faces Cork board using a Contact card.

    • So, first create a new Contact Card.
    • Then  select the name from Contacs, when naming the Faces on a photo.
    • Quit iPhoto,  Now open Contacts and the Faces picture will show.

If you don't name the faces in iPhoto you can drag the photo you want to use from the open iPhoto window into the open Contact window for that person.

    Yes, you are right.

Clicking Defaults, My Photo Stream, Camera works but not Faces.

In trying to properly label people's faces I run into the problem where it presents me with several entries of the same name to choose from. In the photo attached you can see that my brother's name appears 3 times, with the first two having the exact same email address, but I only have one card for him on iCloud. I understand that the 3rd option given is appearing from the fact that my LinkedIn is connected to my Contacts database on my computer, and I have my brother's LinkedIn card linked to his iCloud card. What I don't understand is why there's another option to choose from, for a total of 3.

This is so freaking confusing. Apple needs to offer a better way to do this, or at least better instructions. iPhoto.png

Do you already have photos with faces names assigned for him in your iPhoto Library?

If you already have a stack of Faces for him on the Faces Cork board, then this will also be shown, when you name the faces.  So you will se the LinkedIn Card, the card you made, plus any face that is already in your faces database in iPhoto. You could have several faces entries for him already, depending on the way you have written the "e" or "é".

    • If you already have photos of your brother with Faces assigned in iPhoto, merge all stacks of faces with his picture on the corkboard by dragging them on top of each other.
    • Rename the merged stack of faces to "Little Brother" or something.
    • Quit iPhoto
    • Then crete a new Contact Card for your brother in Contacts.
    • Launch iPhoto again.
    • Name a new photo with your bothers name from the contacts.
    • Quit iPhoto,  Now open Contacts and the Faces picture will /should show.

Now launch iPHoto again and drag the old stack with faces of your brother onto the new one.

This worked very well in MacOS X 10.9.x. and MacOS X 10.10.1. After the last Yosemite update I installed Contacts does no longer seem to be able to find the current iPhoto Library and always hanging on "Loading faces":

Send feedback to apple if it does not work for you. It may not ever be fixed in iPhoto,  but this way the developers will know that the feature is important and should be supported in the successor "Photos".
