Q: Final Cut 10.1.4 keeps loading unwanted events

I just upgraded to Final Cut 10.1.4, and am deeply regretting it.

I imported all my events and projects, and everything seemed fine until I tried to actually do work.

Every time I try to drag part of a clip into the timeline, or an effect onto a clip, Final Cut decides to start loading an event I'm not working on into the event browser, but the load never ends, and the program freezes. It won't let me do anything. I have to Force Quit the application. It's basically useless, as I can't drag any media into the timeline without this happening. HELP!

Final Cut Pro X, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Upgrade to 10.1.4 from where or what other version??

How was the import of events and projects done?

The 10.1 library scheme is quite different than the file organization of FCP X 10.0.x versions…and there is a huge amount of info available on what to do (and what not to do) in updating. For example, here and here.

To elaborate on Al's question, you can't import projects or events.

I followed the prompts, and updated all of my projects and events to the new Library format. All of my media is there, and I can see it. I upgraded from 10.0.8, which had been very stable, if somewhat slow to render effects.

The problem went away for a few hours, I got a lot done, and suddenly it's back. When I try to drag a selection of a clip to the timeline, or an effect onto a clip that's already in the timeline, or if I use any commands, suddenly I get the spinning colour wheel and the application starts to load an event unrelated to what I'm working on.

From what you describe I'd be thinking thinking hardware rather than software.

Focus on checking the integrity of the RAM or take your Mac to an Apple Service Centre.
