Nov 22, 2014 4:23 AM in response to The_V-Manby autoskool,Running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. I was facing the same issue with the HD not showing up in Finder. It appeared in Disk Utility however, it wasn't mounted. Did the kext utility download, ran the program and rebooted, and voila...works like a Charm.

Nov 23, 2014 9:29 AM in response to The_V-Manby katzmannn,I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but after hours of searching for an answer as to why my external hard drive did not show up on my desktop after upgrading to Yosemite, I clicked on the Finder, clicked on Preferences and under the General tab there's a section that says, "Show these items on the desktop," where I simply checked "External Drives." All is well now!

Mar 13, 2015 9:26 PM in response to The_V-Manby The_V-Man,Seems as though i'm not the only one with this issue - there's another massive thread with various 'solutions' none of which have worked for me.
It does appear to be a known issue that Apple have refused to acknowledge (or fix)

Mar 21, 2015 11:08 PM in response to autoskoolby Sandra Pesch,I cannot get to install the Kext Utility download cause Apple somehow blocks it . I get this message:
“Kext Utility” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.
anybody knows how to work around this??
thanks in advance!

Apr 2, 2015 7:14 AM in response to Sandra Peschby gotjoshua,“Kext Utility” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.
go to System Preferences... Security...
there should be a message saying the app was blocked
and you can click "run anyway"
(note: technically you should have googled this, because it is basic knowledge that is off-topic for this thread)
