Q: Mid 2010 MacBook Pro Battery Issue

I recently acquired a MacBook Pro 2010 (still in great shape I might add!). I updated the system to OS X Yosemite and replaced the battery. Now instead of the battery indicator reaching zero it reaches 8% and shuts down. Is there anyway I can recalibrate the battery?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Mid 2010, 13"

Built-in Mac batteries do not require and cannot benefit from "recalibrating". They are also not user-replaceable. If you replaced the battery yourself, you may well have wasted your time and money. Have Apple do it. If Apple replaced the battery, bring it back to them. They have a warranty.

Define Built-in? The battery had a white-slip and it easily came out.. I do not believe it was built-in. I may be wrong though! It seems to work fine other than the fact that the battery meter does not show the correct battery life.

I appreciate your response, by the way!

Apple considers any battery that requires a screwdriver to remove a Mac's rear case as "built-in" or non-removable:

Mac notebooks: All about batteries - Apple Support

    Non-removable batteries

MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro computers with built-in batteries should only have their batteries replaced by an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store. Attempting to replace a built-in battery yourself could damage your equipment, and such damage is not covered by warranty.

    Mac notebooks with built-in batteries:

    • All MacBook Air computers
    • All MacBook Pro computers with Retina display
    • MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009 and later)
    • MacBook Pro (Early 2009 and later)
