Q: Gmail emails are delayed or not sending to iCloud

A very strange issue started out of the blue a couple of days ago. I have my gmail account forwarding to my iCloud (me.com). My friend asked me if I got his email the other day, never went through. After some testing I found out that all of a sudden Gmail messages are not being forwarded or sent to my iCloud. Some are even bouncing back. Any idea what the problem might be? Why would it start out of the blue?

    I'm having the same problem and forwarding is turned on. The emails eventually arrive but are delayed, sometimes over 48 hours. I talked to apple; they said it was gmail. I went through gmail's online help and send them a trouble ticket which included the raw header. Hopefully someone at gmail will look at it and get back to me. --Pam

    Of course now it's the back and forth blame game with no resolution. Emails sent directly to icloud from gmail are delayed as well.

    Maybe, maybe not. I did spend sometime on the phone with apple and they are aware of the problem. The guy I spoke too did consult a senior engineer. Both looked at my email raw headers too. When I went through the help area of gmail, I did get to a screen that checked the raw header info and asked me to send it to them which I did. I'm hoping for a resolution from gmail. I suspect it's their problem. --Pam

    Problem appears to be resolving as I'm getting a lot of emails that were not going thru. Apple has had some DNS issues this past week and I wonder if it had something to do with it. But why specifically gmail? Makes me wonder if it is indeed a google thing.

    Slowly but surely I'm getting my delayed emails too. I read somewhere about problems with Apple's DNS numbers and I even asked the apple tech about it but he said no, that that wasn't the problem. I'm sure the problem will get resolved. As for identifying the actual source, we may never know. It's always nice to get closure on this type of issue, but the main thing is getting it resolved. I've had email since about 1995 I think. The first high speed service, if you can call it that, was an ISDN line. Back then email would not infrequently go down for 3 or 4 days at a stretch. We've come a long way since then. Pam

    Be patient. I got one this afternoon that was sent on the morning of the 12th. I just got another one that was sent this morning. When they show up doesn't appear to have much to do with when they were sent. Pam

    I Have no use for emails days late. This has been going on for a few days now and is ridiculous for a company the size of Google or Apple.

    Twice as many email systems = Twice as much chance for errors

     

    Why do it this way, chains fail at the weak point (Gmail)

    I completely agree: "Twice as many email systems ...". I choose to do it this way and I'm not surprised or annoyed that there are occasionally issues. I use my mac address as my main email for most of my email and my gmail email for another purpose. Having my gmail automatically forwarded to my mac account and then archived on my gmail account is just for my convenience. If I really need something off my gmail, it's all there in All Mail. This problem will eventually be resolved. Pam

    It is frustrating for sure, especially when running a business.

     

    UPDATE: The problem is still going, though it seems periodically. Got an email directly from a client (gmail) to my iCloud email at 6am this morning. The email shows as being sent 5pm yesterday. Then logged into gmail to find that there where about 20 new emails, half of which did not forward, half of which did. Also received a "failed permanently" on an email that kept bouncing back (forwarding from my gmail to iCloud).

     

    Frustrating by any standards.

    I have the same problem.  Started on March 12, 2015.  Still ongoing.  I spent an hour on the phone to a senior Apple tech guy and they're working on it.  The newest and most troubling thing for me is, my friend, who has been experiencing the same issue, sent me an email this morning from her iCloud email, and it still hasn't arrived to my iCloud!  Before the problem was just receiving emails from a gmail address.  But now it appears that iCloud is also delayed!!

    Same problem here; started on March 12 too. I also spoke with senior Apple tech guy yesterday. He said it was google's problem. I have applecare. I think I'll call back. Pam

    I'm trying to think outside the box here. What if my IP address somehow got marked as spam by gmail or mac by accident? That could cause a delay. I went to whatismyipaddress.com, put in my IP address and it did come up with 4 sites that are blocking it. I'm not sure what if anything that means. I'm certainly not or ever have been involved in any spam. Pam
