Q: Gmail emails are delayed or not sending to iCloud

A very strange issue started out of the blue a couple of days ago. I have my gmail account forwarding to my iCloud (me.com). My friend asked me if I got his email the other day, never went through. After some testing I found out that all of a sudden Gmail messages are not being forwarded or sent to my iCloud. Some are even bouncing back. Any idea what the problem might be? Why would it start out of the blue?

My mac.com address cannot receive gmails for up to two days after they were sent.

Glad things are fixed for you Pam, still having the problem here.... also got a handful of test gmails from last night finally in this morning.  But Gmails sent to @me.com this morning have yet to come through.  Sigh.

I suggest doing the three things I did: Call Apple, report the problem to google (650) 253-0000, and send call and send an email to your ISP telling them your mail is being blocked. Pam

I suggest a little testing would be in order.....

from another address, send three emails at five minute intervals to your icloud address cc'd to your gmail address (turn forwarding off for the test) observe when they arrive, that will provide some basic data on the two accounts rather than the chained method

then observe the times that the email arrived at the respective websites, this will tell you the time between iCloud or Gmail getting the mail and your mail client receiving it from Gmail, or iCloud

I turned my email forwarding off yesterday and it made no difference except that I couldn't turn it on again because the confirmation email arrived a day later. So be careful if you do that. Pam

If you don't want to test that's fine

I've also been having the exact same problem - any mail sent from Gmail to my iCloud address is being delayed. The delays range in time but can be over 24 hours. I wanted to add my voice to draw attention to the issue. I hope Apple finds a solution quickly!

Even though I'm no longer having the problem, I did just stumble upon a possible answer (I'm pasting in below); message is dated 12/11/14. So maybe it is iCloud and maybe if you report it to apple, as I did, your problem will resolve as mine did. Pam

    "Hi Jeff,

Andy from Google here. We looked into this and found the following error message occurring two times for that message that eventually delivered:

"TEMP_FAILURE: #1: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain icloud.com by mx1.mail.icloud.com. The error that the other server returned was: Temporary lookup failure: jjm**...@icloud.com"

So it appears it's an issue with one of icloud's mail servers, a "temporary lookup failure", to that particular address when we are trying to deliver the message. Went ahead and double-checked on our side as well, and we haven't been experiencing any message delivery issues that would lead to this delay.

Hope this is helpful, and thanks Brett for raising! Andy"

So far my issue seems to be resolved. Whether it stays this way or not, we shall see. As mentioned earlier, I switched forwarding to my @icloud address and have not seen any issues.

I left mine at my .mac address and everything is working as expected again. I'm still receiving delay messages but those are from 3/14 and 3/15 so I expect I will stop seeing them soon. Glad to know you issue is also fixed. I do now think it was the iCloud server. check out the message I found from google about the issue that I posted about 10 minutes ago. --Pam

Scrath that...sent a new test from gmail to me & iCloud 5 minutes ago. Nothing.

So forwarding working so far to iCloud, but I guess direct messages not!

EDIT: spoke too soon, they just came in at the same time. 6 minute delay.

Spent an hour on phone with mac help.   Gmail from mac help came through, and a couple of tests from another gmail subscriber came through, but delivery is sporadic.   Apple says it's a gmail problem.  Gmail says it's an apple problem.  Infuriating.

Try changing it back to .mac and check your mail settings on your mac under mail:preferences:accounts.
